SUMMER INTERN—Geographic Information System (GIS) & Drafting

Wage: $9.00/hour

I.  JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Summer Intern (GIS and Drafting) position reports to the Chief Operating Officer, is supervised by the GIS & Project Development Supervisor, and works with the GIS and Project Development Section personnel and other departments as directed. This position assists the mapping department with various tasks. The duration of the Summer Intern position is approximately ten weeks during the summer. The position is designed for full-time students who are returning for a full time course of instruction at a high school, community college, or university for the Fall semester. The Cooperative supports a positive work environment that emphasizes the Cooperative’s current mission statement and core values.

II.  ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The Summer Intern – (GIS and Drafting) duties include, but are not limited to:

1.  Edit Trico’s Geographic Information System (GIS) also known as mapping.

2.  Gather and enter accurate data from various sources for use in updating mapping system.

3.  Assist with various drafting projects as necessary.

III.  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The Summer Intern (GIS and Drafting) position must have the following minimum requirements:

1.  Must be a full-time student with some drafting training and experience.

2.  Ability to read, interpret and understand a map for the purpose of navigating to outside field areas to verify existing facilities on the electrical system.

3.  Ability to enter data accurately and proficiently using computer operations.

4.  Ability to understand and follow written procedures and oral instructions.

5.  Ability to work with minimal supervision once procedures are learned.

6.  Ability to work effectively with other employees and general public to obtain goals and meet objectives.

IV.  PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

The work is performed primarily inside in an air-conditioned, smoke-free office environment. Occasional field work will be required and during these times, this position will experience the heat of summer and dusty road conditions. This position requires the use of telephone equipment, computer systems and associated software. The job requires the ability to sit for long periods of time. The use of stairs is occasionally required. The job involves 80% sitting; 10% bending, squatting, crouching, kneeling, pushing/pulling, twisting and reaching overhead. Occasionally the individual requires carrying and lifting 10 pounds from a waist level overhead. The position requires extensive fine finger dexterity, including simple and firm grasping, fine manipulation and repetitive movements, including typing, with both hands.
