Selection Policy – International Events March/April 2015

SIAB Cross Country – Dublin (21/03/2015)

  • First 6 “past the post” at the Welsh Schools Cross Country Championships (to be held at Brecon on Wednesday, February 11th.) to be automatic selections in the Junior and Middle teams to represent the Association at SIAB.
  • The first 12 finishers at the National Championships will be required immediately after their races to meet the Team Managers to complete paperwork and indicate availability.
  • Athletes unable to compete in the Championships can continue to ask for special consideration at the selection meeting (via use of the approved proforma through District Team Managers). However athletes must be able to demonstrate form from participation at the events listed below.
  • At the Selection Committee held immediately after the last race in Brecon, athletes finishing in positions 7 to 12 will be considered alongside any nominations from Districts.
  • The additional 2 discretionary places to be decided with reference to performances at the following events:-
  1. The Inter-Schools Championships (Brecon, November 15th. 2014).
  2. The Inter-Regional Championships (Builth Wells, December 13th. 2014).
  3. The Cardiff Cross Challenge (Blackweir Park, January 18th. 2015).
  4. The Welsh Schools Championships (Brecon, February 11th. 2015).

The following will be contacted (by letter) as soon as is practicable following selection:

  • The 8 athletes from the Junior and Middle age groupings who successfully came through selection.
  • A further 4 athletes will be placed on a standby reserve list. They will be invited to compete in the case of withdrawals (there is no guarantee that a vacancy will arise).
  • The remaining athletes considered who were unsuccessful.

Pupils selected as team members or as standby reserves are reminded that they are expected to continue to compete at events in the lead up to SIAB, to include the Welsh Championships at Corwen and the CAU Championships (if selected by Regions).

Virgin Money Giving Mini London Marathon (26/4/2015)

Six teams of 6 pupils will be selected by the end of February.The4 selection races match those shown above (SIAB). In addition performances at the following will also be considered:-

Welsh Cross Country Championships (Rhug Estate, Corwen, February 21st. 2015).

Age groupings used in London are Under 13 (school years 7 & 8), Under 15 (9 & 10) and Under 17 (11 & 12). Team selection to be decided by a 3 strong selection panel (made up of the Event Co-ordinator and 2 selectors nominated at the Welsh Schools Executive meeting held on January 31st. 2015).

The following will be contacted (by letter) as soon as is practicable following selection:

  • The 6 athletes from the Under 13, 15 and 17 age groupings who successfully came through selection.
  • The 6 standby reserves who will be placed on a reserve listing (athletes will also be advised of their position on that list).

Athletes on the reserve listing are reminded that there is no guarantee that vacancies will arise.
