Selection of Honorees for Schriever Wall of Honor

January

Schriever Chapter (AFA) to contact SMC and local professional organizations, FFRDCs, and industry associated with SMC for nominees.

·  Chapter contacts to be as broad as possible, including small business, through local professional organization boards.

·  Timeframe for pioneering contributions will be 30 years ago. More recent contributions may be considered on a case-by case basis.

·  Nominees to be added to current list.

·  Nominees may be military, government civilians, and employees of private industry, FFRDCs, or other non­government organizations.

·  Nominees cannot be current military members or government employees.

Submittal packages must include brief description of pioneering contribution and timeframe.

·  Contributions to development and acquisition of military space systems, launch vehicles, and ballistic missiles while assigned to or closely connected with SMC.

·  Technology associated with satellite payloads including sensors, communication packages, pointing, navigation, and tracking subsystems; spacecraft housekeeping and stabilization subsystems; and rocket propulsion and guidance.

·  Development of ground based payload and spacecraft command/control, processing systems and sub-systems, and launch facilities.

·  During the vetting process contributions will be classed as to technology development, program management, and decision-making.

·  Consideration may be given to those fundamentally responsible for initial program approvals.

·  Chapter will consult with SMC History Office to verify.

February/March

Schriever Chapter-led committee should review nominations and select proposed honorees.

·  Committee to include representatives of professional organizations (such as SCAPR, AFCEA, and NDIA), and FFRDCs and the SMC liaison to the Schriever board and the SMC Historian.

·  Number of proposed selectees not to exceed four in a single year

·  Selection will be without regard to race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, color, creed, national origin, ancestry, or any other non-merit factors.

·  Proposed selectees will be vetted for derogatory information.

March

·  Chapter may, should the Chapter so desire, submit gift proffer to SMC for legal review and approval/disapproval by the SMC Commander.

·  Proposed selectees would be submitted along with justification to SMC Commander for concurrence.

April

·  Honorees announced as soon as approved by SMC Commander.

·  Engraving contracted for by the Schriever Chapter.

·  Chapter will attempt to contact family members and surviving honorees to participate.

·  Unveiling Ceremony usually held the day before the “Salute to SMC” banquet. Chapter will host reception for participants.

·  Invitees will include original Schriever Statue sponsors.
