Day of the Dead/Día de los Muertos
This coming Saturday, November 5th from 11:00-2:00 am we will be celebrating Día de los Muertos! This is a fun, family event with games, face painting, and entertainment from the Baile Folklórico Grupo Colibri! We will also be touring through classes that have set up Día de los Muertos altars. There will be yummy food available from a Taco Truck so bring some $. Please attend and enjoy!
Kindergarten Tours
Selby Lane has started Kindergarten Tours for interested parents for 2017/18 every Thursday at 8:45 AM. Please contact the office to reserve a spot and see for yourself the wonderful Kindergarten classes and teachers!
Principal’s Message
Dear Selby Lane families,
We are at the end of the first trimester for the school year. Parent/Teacher Conferences are coming up on November 21 and 22 and we want every student’s parents to meet with his/her teacher.Your child’s teacher will communicate the conference schedule information with you. Conferences are very important and give you an opportunity to speak to the teacher about your child’s progress. Please come prepared for conferences by having questions written down and come early to the conference. You should ask if your child is performing at grade level and how you can help at home. If you need an interpreter, please let your child's teacher know. You may choose to bring someone to interpret for you. Additionally, at the Principal’s Coffee on November 18th we will be giving parents some ideas to help you better understand the report card and for conferences. We look forward to seeing you there!

Kindergarten Registration
The District is offering parent assistance at limited schools this year: Garfield, Fair Oaks, Hawes, Hoover and Taft on 9:00-12:00 this Saturday, November 5.
Online School of Choice Registration
Online School of Choice Applications opens at 9:00 am on Saturday, November 5 and extends through Thursday, December 22. School of Choice Placements/Waitlists will be announced on February 24. Questions about School of Choice should be directed to Melanie Davenport at (650)482-2200 ext. 2237.
Important Policies
You must sign in and sign out at the office and receive a Visitor’s Badge to be on campus to maintain the safety of our students. All students must be signed out if leaving prior to the end of the day.
Due to concerns regarding allergies, food safety, and obesity, classrooms do not celebrate holidays and birthdays with food. Teachers and students recognize each other in many other productive ways without involving food.
Please do not purchase or make food to share with your child’s classroom for special occasions. We appreciate your support in this area.
A Message from the Cafeteria
If your child eats school meals and does not qualify for free meals, then please prepay for your child’s meals at ezschoolpay.com or by check. If your child’s meal account reaches a negative balance of $7.50, as a courtesy, your child will be given a lunch of cereal, milk, fruit, and a vegetable
Box Tops
This year, our school will be participating in the Box Tops for Education TM program. Sandy Kauman is our Box Tops Coordinator for Selby Lane. Clipping Box Tops is an easy way for you to help our school buy what it needs. Box Tops are each worth 10¢ and they quickly add up to real cash for our school. This school year, our school's earnings goal is $1,000.00. To help our school, just look for pink Box Tops on products, clip them, and send them in to your child’s classroom in a zip lock bag.

English Language Advisory Committee
Attend and support the school by meeting once a month to discuss how we can better meet the needs of our second language learners.
School Site Council
Attend an open meeting once a month. The agenda/minutes are posted outside the office. The council supports the principal in making important decisions regarding academics, safety, and budget.

Join us for an informal monthly coffee to discuss your concerns and suggestions for Selby Lane.
PTA: Attend meetings and events, and support the PTA.
A Message From Selby Lane PTA President Jackie Ward
Dear Selby Lane Community!
Thank you for joining us recently at our October events! If you missed our last Emergency Preparedness presentation and Family Fun Night with Bingo, you really missed out! PTA sponsors events that are mostly free and offer refreshments and childcare. You don't need to be a member, but your membership of just $20 per school year helps us put on these community builders for you! Plus membership in the PTA gives you a vote at all PTA Open Meetings. It's never too late to join us. Come to our next meeting on Mondays November 14th in the Library at 6:30 pm. See what you are missing and get involved!
Attendance
As a reminder, please send your child to school every day and on time. School starts at 8:20am. If your child is absent please call the school. We have established a school wide goal to improve student attendance this year. Every minute and day of instruction with your child counts! If your child needs to be out for 5 consecutive days or more, you must let the office know 2 weeks in advance in order to get an Independent Study packet.
Pick Up/Drop Off Procedures
For the safety of your child and to abide by traffic laws.
· Use one of the two drop off lanes
· Pull forward and allow your child out of the car ONLY at the crosswalk
· Make a right turn only out of the drop off lane
· Refrain from cell phone use
· Do not park in drop off lanes
· Do not park in neighbor’s driveways
· Do not park next to a fire hydrant
· Do not make U-turns in the street
· Wait for pedestrians to cross the street
· When parking on the street, cross the street in the crosswalk

Día de los Muertos

Visitas a los salones de Kinder

Estimadas familias de Selby Lane,
Estamos ya casi al final del primer trimestre del año escolar. Las Conferencias de Padres/Maestros serán los días 21 y 22 de Nov. Queremos que los padres de cada estudiante se reúnan con su maestro. El maestro de su hijo (a) le comunicará acerca del horario de la conferencia. Las conferencias son muy importantes, usted tendrá oportunidad de hablar con el maestro sobre el progreso de su hijo. Por favor, vengan preparados con preguntas escritas y lleguen temprano. Es importante saber si su hijo está trabajando a nivel de grado y cómo lo puede ayudar en casa. Si necesita traducción, por favor dígale al maestro(a) o si desea usted puede traer a alguien para que le ayude con la traducción. En el Cafecito con el director, el 18 de Nov, daremos mas ideas para ayudarles a entender mejor el reporte de notas y explicar con mas detalles acerca de las conferencias. Esperamos verlos allí!

Registración para Kindergarten
El Distrito ofrecerá ayuda a las familias en las escuelas: Garfield, Fair Oaks, Hawes, Hoover y Taft este Sábado 5 de Nov de 9:00 a 12:00. Polizas Importantes
Para mantener la seguridad de nuestros estudiantes todos los visitantes deben firmar y obtener una insignia de visitante. Si usted recoge a su niño(a) antes del final del día, por favor firme en la oficina. Debido a las alergias, la seguridad alimentaria y la obesidad, las aulas no celebran las fiestas y los cumpleaños con los alimentos. Los maestros y los estudiantes se reconocen entre sí de muchas otras maneras productivas sin involucrar comida. Por favor, no compre ni haga comida para compartir con la clase de su hijo(a) para ocasiones especiales. Agradecemos su apoyo en esta área.
Un Mensaje de la Cafetería
Si su hijo come comidas escolares y no califica para comidas gratis, por favor prepague las comidas de su hijo en www.ezschoolpay.com o por cheque. Si la cuenta de comida de su hijo alcanza un saldo negativo de $ 7.50, como cortesía, a su hijo se le dará un almuerzo de cereales, leche, frutas y vegetales solamente.
Box Tops
Este año, nuestra escuela participará en el programa Box Tops for Education TM. Sandy Kauman es nuestra Coordinadora de Box Tops para Selby Lane. Cortar Box Tops es una manera fácil de ayudar a nuestra escuela a comprar lo que necesita. Box Tops valen cada uno 10¢ y rápidamente se suman a efectivo real para nuestra escuela. Este año escolar, la meta de ganancias de nuestra escuela es de $1,000.00. Para ayudar a nuestra escuela, solo busque las tapas de caja rosadas en los productos, recórtelas y envíelas al salón de su hijo en una bolsa con cremallera.

Asista y apoye a la escuela reuniéndose una vez al mes para ver las necesidades de nuestros estudiantes de segunda lengua.
Consejo Escolar
Asistir a una reunión abierta una vez al mes. El orden del día/las actas se colocan fuera de la oficina. El consejo apoya al director en la toma de decisiones importantes con respecto a lo académico, la seguridad y el presupuesto.

¡Querida comunidad de Selby Lane! ¡Gracias por unirse a nosotros recientemente en nuestros eventos de Octubre! Si te perdiste nuestra última presentación de Preparación de Emergencia y la Noche de Diversión Familiar con Bingo, realmente te la perdiste! La PTA patrocina eventos que son en su mayoría gratuitos y ofrecen refrescos y cuidado de niños. Usted no necesita ser miembro, pero su membresía de sólo $20 por año escolar nos ayuda. Además, la membresía en la PTA le da un voto en todas las Reuniones Abiertas de la PTA. Nunca es demasiado tarde para unirse a nosotros. Venga a nuestra próxima reunión el lunes 14 de Nov en la Biblioteca a las 6:30 pm. ¡Vea lo que le falta y participe!
Asistencia
Por favor envíe a su hijo(a) a la escuela todos los días a tiempo. La escuela comienza a las 8:20 am. Si su hijo está ausente por favor llame a la escuela. Nuestra meta es mejorar la asistencia estudiantil este año. Cada minuto de instrucción cuenta! Si su hijo se ausentará por mas de 5 días consecutivos, informe a la oficina con 2 semanas de anticipación para obtener un paquete independiente.
Procedimientos para dejar / recoger
Por la seguridad de su hijo y para cumplir con las leyes de tránsito.
• Utilice uno de los dos carriles
• Maneje hacia adelante y deje a su hijo SOLAMENTE en el cruce de peatones
• De salida haga giro a la derecha en el carril de bajada
• Abstenerse de usar el teléfono celular
• No estacione en carriles de descenso o en las calzadas de los vecinos
• No estacione junto a una boca de incendios
• No haga giros en la calle/cruce en la vía peatonal
• Espere a que los peatones atraviesen la calle
