SEIU Local 49 – Strategic Researcher

Summary: The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 49 is seeking smart, motivated individuals who have a passion for helping workers fight for better working conditions, dignity on the job, and improvements in healthcare for all working families.

Job Description: Exciting research opportunities are available with SEIU. SEIU’s research department provides critical support to a wide range of SEIU campaigns and initiatives. The research department is integrated into all facets of campaigns, including industry and company analysis as part of identifying new markets for organizing, strategic research and development for ongoing campaigns and public policy analysis.

*This is a limited duration 6 month position with the possibility of extension

Some specific duties shall include:

-Compiles, researches, present and summarizes data on industries, companies, individuals, issues and other topics in support of SEIU’s program.

-Analyzing financial, legal and regulatory aspects of industry and employers

-Responds to requests for information from Locals and appropriately defines and develops them; makes referrals as necessary

-Synthesizes relevant facts/issues from a large amount of information/data

-Works with Local Union staff to gather and provide information in a timely fashion

-Develops and implements his/her weekly work plan; meets deadlines

-Demonstrates the capability to learn and develop new skills

-Performs other duties as required to support the department and its mission.

Requirements

-Commitment to progressive social change and activist experience

-Bachelor’s degree from accredited four year college or university and/or prior research experience

-Knowledge of research techniques and processes.

-Knowledge of quantitative techniques and analysis.

-Ability to use personal computer, including spreadsheets, databases and on-line research services.

-Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

-Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures

-Skill in the use of personal computers

-Skill in the use of spreadsheet and database software and on-line services

-Ability to solve problems creatively and think on your feet

-Must have strong judgment and strategic sense

-Must be able to perform successfully in both independent and team settings

-Must be able to succeed in an environment of accountability in meeting the goals of the campaign

Compensation

Salary range starts at $42,006, fully paid family healthcare, vacation and sick leave, retirement plans and other benefits.
