Action for Children – Wrexham Solutions Therapy Service

Provide a therapeutic service for children, young people and their families in the Wrexham area at Tier 2; with additional provision in the areas of Caia Park and Plas Madoc. The service aims to help children who are experiencing emotional difficulties. The timing of therapy sessions is agreed with children and families to meet their needs.

BAWSO Black Association of Women Step Out

Holistic services to Black and Minority Ethnic women and children, who are, or are about to be made homeless through a threat of domestic abuse, sufferingor fleeing domestic abusein Wales. It is affiliated to Welsh Women's Aid and works closely and in partnership with other women's aid organisations.

Caia Park

Caia Park Early Years Forum

Family Support offers support and advice to parents. Parenting Programmes running during the year, including Incredible Years.

Caia Park Health Team

The health team provide support and education to parents and children around health and wellbeing. Parenting programmes include Drug Proof Your kids, Adolescent Stop Smoking and Pram Power. The team also facilitate a Parent Group.

Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS)

Education and support to other professionals/multi disciplinary working. Assessment and diagnosis for ADHD. Workshops for young people, siblings and parents. Behavioural advice, advice line and signposting service.

Child and Family Assessment Team

Social Workers trained in childcare provide information, advice help and counselling.

Child Health Team – Under 5’s Family Team

Assessment and intervention for complex behaviour difficulties. Group and individual interventions. Incredible Years and New Forest Parenting Programmes.

Child Health and Disabilities Social Work team

Offer advice and information, family support, respite care and out of school support groups for families of children with disabilities.

Communities First

Hightown Parent Group

Hightown Parents Group meets every Friday from 12.30pm-2.30pm in Hightown Community Centre. The group is facilitated by experienced staff and free qualified childcare is provided on site while the group meets. The group is open to any parent, guardian or grandparent of children aged between 0 and 18 years. The group is run in a very informal and relaxed way, so why not come along and socialise with other parents, get information and advice, and have a bit of ’you’ time.

Plas Madoc Communities First

Informal support group for parents of children with disabilities, a chance to meet other parents and gain support from each other. Signposting parents to relevant agencies.

Dynamic

Parents of disabled children meet once a month over coffee and biscuits to share the ups and downs of their lives. Information sharing and support. Out of school groups - for children and young people. Daybreak - short break respite scheme.

Educational Psychology Team

Wrexham’s Educational Psychology Service, which includes the Portage home visiting service for Early Years and Student Assistance Programme, provides consultation, advice and guidance to parents of children aged 2-19 years with the overall aim of helping them to be confident and skilful parents.

We aim to provide a service responsive to their needs and at several levels with casework, facilitative group work and training applying psychology and using some evidenced based programmes.

We provide information about our service prior to involvement and request evaluation of our service systematically. We provide support for the development and implementation of Wrexham‘s Parenting Strategy

Family Centres

Specialise in work with parents who need support in their parenting role through group and individual programmes.

Dean Road Family Centre

Freedom Programme

The course addresses domestic abuse and its effects on children. The group is a women’s group that runs for 12 weeks. Crèche facilities and some transport available, it will be a closed group and open to women with children.

Idwal Family Centre

Kids Talk

1:1 appointments to explore any difficulties parents may be experiencing with children between the ages of 2 and 11. Advice, support and signposting offered on an individual basis. Crazy Tots – parent and toddler group.

Family Friends for 5-11’s – Family Support

Family Friends offers a family support service for Wrexham families that are suffering stress. This is carried out by trained volunteers who offer weekly support for 2-3 hours, including parenting advice, emotional and practical support.

Flying Start

Offering a range of courses and groups to parents within Flying Start areas including Incredible Years, Solihull Approach, parenting activities, health and safety topics, for families.

Genesis Cymru Wales 2

Genesis aims to help the hardest to reach unemployed parents overcome many of the barriers they face when wanting to learn new skills or return to work. We offer confidence building and support and guidance for those wishing to enter training or employment. Genesis may be able to provide free or subsided childcare. Genesis also runs free taster courses, “Making Choices” for people who are interested in working in the child care sector.

Health Clinics

Overton Clinic

Offer advice, information and support to parents. Baby massage classes and weaning talk for parents. Toddleabout Walks, guided walks for pushchair users.

Home Start

Volunteer support to families in their own home to offer friendship, practical and emotional support, tailored to the individual needs of the family at a time to suit the family.

Key Connections

Families Learning Programme, based in schools, helping families develop their own skills and confidence to be better able to support their children’s education at home.

Language and Play/Numbers and Play (LAP & NAP)

Language and Play is a programme for parents and carers in Wales who have children 0-3 years. The LAP programme aims to share ideas and activities over six sessions and will help you realise how important you are to your child's education. Numbers and Play is a programme that follows on from LAP and offers information, ideas and tips on counting, numbers, shapes, sizes and time. A 5 week Baby Massage course is also run to encourage parents to communicate with their new baby.

Learning Support - Children with Special Educational Needs

Mudiad Meithrin

12 parent and toddler groups available providing opportunities and support to parents through the medium of welsh.

School Age Learning Disability Service

Support to parents of children and young people with ASD and/or learning Disabilities, provide a general course for parents who are experiencing difficulty with their child's behaviour, this incorporates several developmental areas such as communication and play. The learning Disability team also provide ongoing “keep safe” courses to children and young people following consultation with parents. For the parents and carers of children with Autism we provide Early Bird (up to five yrs) and Early Bird Plus (up to 8 yrs) - this training is available to parents of children who have a diagnosis of Autism with or without associated learning disabilities.

Talk for Talk

Parent groups for parents of children with additional learning needs. Talk for Talk (ALN) is open to any family member caring for a child or children with additional learning needs from any school in any area.

Families of children excluded from or in danger of being excluded from school.

The Venture

Family support and advice through parent and toddler/Flying Start groups to parents to help with daily stresses of bringing up children and dealing with relationships, debt, housing and school.

Wrexham Citizen’s Advice Bureau

Parent Partnership, an independent service running through the CAB supporting parents of children with SEN (regardless of stage of SEN). Weekly support group during term time offering support and advice.

Wrexham County Borough Council Parenting Team

Support and advice for parents and practitioners on services/programmes/groups available in Wrexham. One to one support available for parents covering a range of topics/strategies through experienced sessional workers.

A support group for parents who are experiencing violence or abuse from Young People in their family. (Referral only)

A support group for parents of children awaiting/received diagnosis for ADHD or Autistic Spectrum Disorder.

A support group for dads and their children (aged 0-10 years).

Polish Parent’s Group

A support group for Polish parents and their children.

Parent Network

The parent Network gives “parents” an opportunity to have their say, influence decisions that affect your family and help make a positive impact in the community.

Wrexham Community Safety Team

Are committed to listening to the needs of communities and responding in a positive manner. Police Community Support Officers (PCSO’s) work with neighbourhood policing teams across the area to provide high visibility and accessibility to the public and achieve safe and secure neighbourhoods.
