Summary of the Main Features of the Project:
Within the next few years, the international concept of evidence based medicine and its wide spread use in clinical medicine will be dominant. To practice evidence based medicine, it is mandatory to prepare the students for such modality. To prepare the students, it is a must for the staff members to master the new teaching technology. The needs assessment questionnaire clarified a lag in the knowledge of medical informatics, evidence based medicine and best evidence medical education or in the usage of them in education. This was either due to information explosion or mostly due to lack of skills needed for those recent teaching methods.
Our 2 years project aim at overcoming such gap. In its implementation phase starting in the 5th project month, we will conduct 16 monthly training workshops; each one is for one week to train 25 of junior staff members. These workshops will train > 300 of the junior staff members attaining the skills needed for searching and evaluation of the information on the net, and the integration of available medical information into best evidence medical education (BEME).
To avoid some managerial obstacles, the leaders in the university and college will attend monthly evaluation meetings to avoid or solve them. To avoid some problems in Visa, plane tickets, we will subcontract with specialized agency in finishing such things. Multiple dissemination actions will be utilized as monthly flyers, web page creation, presenting results at many conferences, creation of CDs, books and conducting conferences. Monitoring will be done with both the formative monthly one and the summative one at the end of each project year. Impact will be measured from special forms distributed every three months on the staff members and students.
By the end of the project, we will have the syllabus, trainers and facilities needed to create centre of excellence that will conduct future workshops for both training of new members and retraining of seniors, with certain fees. At that time, practice of evidence based medicine will be a must; hence the college by-law will be logically changed to include such courses as a pre requisite for any degree upgrade.

Dear professors, dear colleagues,

Attached to this email is a word file that contains a summary of a

project

proposal that one of our colleagues is preparing for the JEP 15 Dec

2003

session. Our colleague from Tanta University, Faculty of Medicine

(Dr. Magdy

Balaha) is in search of two European partners (where one of them

should act

as a contractor), and actually he has gone a long way in the design

of the

project and the writing of the project document....

The email of Dr. Magdy Balaha is:
