PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1  RELATED DOCUMENTS

1.3  DEFINITIONS

Retain definition(s) remaining after this Section has been edited.

  1. Circuit Piping: Downstream from control valves to sprinklers, specialties, and drain valves. Piping is under pressure during flow.

Retain first paragraph below unless drain valves discharge onto grade without downstream piping.

  1. Drain Piping: Downstream from circuit-piping drain valves. Piping is not under pressure.
  2. ET Controllers: EvapoTranspiration Controllers. Irrigation controllers which use some method of weather based adjustment of irrigation. These adjusting methods include use of historical monthly averages of ET; broadcasting of ET measurements; or use of on-site sensors to track ET.
  3. Main Piping: Downstream from point of connection to water distribution piping to, and including, control valves. Piping is under water-distribution-system pressure.
  4. Low Voltage: As defined in NFPA70 for circuits and equipment operating at less than 50V or for remote-control, signaling power-limited circuits.

1.4  PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

Select one option from first paragraph below. If selecting first option, retain controller, wiring, and automatic control valves. Manual control requires a gate valve for each zone.

  1. Irrigation zone control shall be [automatic operation with controller and automatic control] [manual operation with manual] valves.

Retain one of first two paragraphs below. Retain first paragraph if complete system design and calculations are in the Contract Documents.

  1. Location of Sprinklers and Specialties: Design location is approximate. Make minor adjustments necessary to avoid plantings and obstructions such as signs and light standards. Maintain 100 percent irrigation coverage of areas indicated.

Retain first paragraph below if Contractor is required to assume responsibility for design.

  1. Delegated Design: Design 100 percent coverage irrigation system, including comprehensive engineering analysis by a qualified professional engineer, using performance requirements and design criteria indicated.

Retain applicable soil conditions in subparagraph below.

1.5  ACTION SUBMITTALS

  1. Product Data: For each type of product indicated. Include rated capacities, operating characteristics,[electrical characteristics,] and furnished specialties and accessories.

  1. Wiring Diagrams: For power, signal, and control wiring.

Paragraph below is defined in Section013300 "Submittal Procedures" as a "Delegated-Design Submittal." Retain if Work of this Section is required to withstand specific design loads and design responsibilities have been delegated to Contractor or if structural data are required as another way to verify compliance with performance requirements. Professional engineer qualifications are specified in Section014000 "Quality Requirements."

  1. Delegated-Design Submittal: For irrigation systems indicated to comply with performance requirements and design criteria, including analysis data signed and sealed by the qualified professional engineer responsible for their preparation.
  2. Sustainable Design Submittals:

"Product Data" Subparagraph below applies to IgCC, ASHRAE189.1, and LEED v4.

1.6  INFORMATIONAL SUBMITTALS

Retain first paragraph below if Drawings do not include detailed plans or if Project involves unusual coordination requirements.

  1. Coordination Drawings: Irrigation systems, drawn to scale, on which components are shown and coordinated with each other, using input from Installers of the items involved. Also include adjustments necessary to avoid plantings and obstructions such as signs and light standards.

Coordinate first paragraph below with qualification requirements in Section014000 "Quality Requirements" and as supplemented in "Quality Assurance" Article.

  1. Qualification Data: For qualified Installer.
  2. Zoning Chart: Show each irrigation zone and its control valve.
  3. Controller Timing Schedule: Indicate timing settings for each automatic controller zone.
  4. Field quality-control reports.

1.7  CLOSEOUT SUBMITTALS

  1. Operation and Maintenance Data: For [sprinklers] [controllers] [and] [automatic control valves] to include in operation and maintenance manuals.

1.8  MAINTENANCE MATERIAL SUBMITTALS

  1. Furnish extra materials that match products installed and that are packaged with protective covering for storage and identified with labels describing contents.
  2. Impact Sprinklers: Equal to <Insert number> percent of amount installed for each type and size indicated, but no fewer than <Insert number> units.
  3. Spray Sprinklers: Equal to <Insert number> percent of amount installed for each type and size indicated, but no fewer than <Insert number> units.
  4. Bubblers: Equal to <Insert number> percent of amount installed for each type indicated, but no fewer than <Insert number> units.
  5. Emitters: Equal to <Insert number> percent of amount installed for each type indicated, but no fewer than <Insert number> units.
  6. Drip-Tube System Tubing: Equal to <Insert number> percent of total length installed for each type and size indicated, but not less than [100 feet (30m)] [500 feet (152m)] <Insert value>.

1.9  QUALITY ASSURANCE

  1. Installer Qualifications: An employer of workers that include a [certified irrigation designer qualified by The Irrigation Association] [Professional Class member of the American Society of Irrigation Consultants] [Professional Technical Class member of the American Society of Irrigation Consultants] <Insert qualifications>.
  2. Electrical Components, Devices, and Accessories: Listed and labeled as defined in NFPA70, by a qualified testing agency, and marked for intended location and application.

1.10  DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

  1. Deliver piping with factory-applied end caps. Maintain end caps through shipping, storage, and handling to prevent pipe-end damage and to prevent entrance of dirt, debris, and moisture.
  2. Store plastic piping protected from direct sunlight. Support to prevent sagging and bending.

1.11  PROJECT CONDITIONS

Retain this article if interruption of existing water service is required.

  1. Interruption of Existing Water Service: Do not interrupt water service to facilities occupied by Owner or others unless permitted under the following conditions and then only after arranging to provide temporary water service according to requirements indicated:
  2. Notify [Architect] [Construction Manager] [Owner] no fewer than [two] <Insert number> days in advance of proposed interruption of water service.
  3. Do not proceed with interruption of water service without [Architect's] [Construction Manager's] [Owner's] written permission.

  1. Manufacturer's Special Warranty on Domestic Products: Conbraco Industries, Inc. warrants products to be free of defects in workmanship or material for a period of five years. This warranty applies to Apollo brand products with "Made in the USA" markings only. Conbraco will correct such defects by suitable repair or replacement at Conbraco's discretion.
  2. Manufacturer's Special Warranty on International Products: APOLLO INTERNATIONAL products will be free of defects in workmanship or material for a period of two years. Conbraco will correct such defects by suitable repair or replacement at Conbraco's discretion.
  3. Manufacturer's Warranty on LASCO Fittings, Inc. products will be free of defects in workmanship for a period of three (3) years from date of installation. The manufacturers liability under expressed or implied warranty or for any reason is limited to furnishing replacement units or granting a credit for defective units.   4. Manufacturer's Special Warranty on LASCO Fittings, Inc. Golf, Residential Commercial, and Heavy Turf, Irrigation Specialty products will be free of defects in workmanship for a period of Five (5) years from date of installation. The manufacturers liability under expressed or implied warranty or for any reason is limited to furnishing replacement units or granting a credit for defective units. No labor expense or consequential damages will be paid by LASCO Fittings, Inc.
  5. Elkhart Products Corporation warranties our fittings to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for a period of fifty (50) years, . The Elkhart Product Corporation Water Heater hoses carry a two (2) year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Any fitting which proves to be defective will be replaced or a credit issued, but no incidental labor charges, expenses or damages will be allowed.

  1. Galvanized-Steel Pipe Nipples: ASTMA733, made of ASTMA53/A53M or ASTMA106/A106M, Standard Weight, seamless-steel pipe with threaded ends.

Fittings in first subparagraph below are available in NPS1/4 to NPS12 (DN8 to DN300).

  1. Galvanized, Gray-Iron Threaded Fittings: ASMEB16.4, Class125, standard pattern.

Unions in first subparagraph below are available in NPS1/8 to NPS4 (DN6 to DN100).

  1. Malleable-Iron Unions: ASMEB16.39, Class150, hexagonal-stock body with ball-and-socket, metal-to-metal, bronze seating surface, and female threaded ends.

Flanges in subparagraph below are available in NPS1 to NPS96 (DN25 to DN2400).

Pipe in first paragraph below is available in NPS3 to NPS64 (DN80 to DN1600).

  1. Mechanical-Joint, Ductile-Iron Fittings: AWWAC110, ductile- or gray-iron standard pattern or AWWAC153, ductile-iron compact pattern.

  1. Push-on-Joint, Ductile-Iron Fittings: AWWAC110, ductile- or gray-iron standard pattern or AWWAC153, ductile-iron compact pattern.

Tube in first paragraph below is available in NPS1/8 to NPS12 (DN6 to DN300).

  1. Soft Copper Tube: ASTMB88, TypeL (ASTMB88M, TypeB), water tube, annealed temper.

Cast-copper-alloy fittings in first subparagraph below are available in NPS1/4 to NPS12 (DN8 to DN300); wrought-copper fittings are available in NPS1/4 to NPS8 (DN8 to DN200).
