PART 1 - GENERAL

1.3DEFINITIONS

Retain terms that remain after this Section has been edited for a project.

  1. DDC: Direct-digital control.
  2. RMS: Root-mean-square value of alternating voltage, which is the square root of the mean value of the square of the voltage values during a complete cycle.

1.4ACTION SUBMITTALS

  1. Product Data: For each type of product, including the following:
  2. Construction details, material descriptions, dimensions of individual components and profiles, and finishes.
  3. Operating characteristics, electrical characteristics, and furnished accessories indicating process operating range, accuracy over range, control signal over range, default control signal with loss of power, calibration data specific to each unique application, electrical power requirements, and limitations of ambient operating environment, including temperature and humidity.
  4. Product description with complete technical data, performance curves, and product specification sheets.
  5. Installation instructions, including factors affecting performance.
  6. Shop Drawings:
  7. Include plans, elevations, sections, and[mounting] details.
  8. Include details of product assemblies. Indicate dimensions, weights, loads, required clearances, method of field assembly, components, and location and size of each field connection.
  9. Include diagrams for power, signal, and control wiring.
  10. Include diagrams for air and process signal tubing.

  9. Torque required at worst case condition for sizing actuator.
  10. Actuator selection indicating torque provided.

1.5INFORMATIONAL SUBMITTALS

Retain "Coordination Drawings" Paragraph below for situations where limited space necessitates maximum utilization for efficient installation of different components or if coordination is required for installation of products and materials by separate installers. Coordinate paragraph with other Sections specifying products listed below. Preparation of coordination drawings requires the participation of each trade involved in installations within the limited space.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

See Editing Instruction No.1 in the Evaluations for cautions about named manufacturers and products. For an explanation of options and Contractor's product selection procedures, see Section016000 "Product Requirements."

2.1PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

  1. Electrical Components, Devices, and Accessories: Listed and labeled as defined in NFPA70, by a qualified testing agency, and marked for intended location and application.
  2. ASME Compliance: Fabricate and label products to comply with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code where required by authorities having jurisdiction.

Retain "Delegated Design" Paragraph below if Contractor is required to assume responsibility for design.

  1. Delegated Design: Engage a qualified professional[engineer], as defined in Section014000 "Quality Requirements," to size products where indicated as delegated design.
  2. Ground Fault: Products shall not fail due to ground fault condition when suitably grounded.
  3. Backup Power Source: Systems and equipment served by a backup power source shall have associated control damper actuators served from a backup power source.
  4. Environmental Conditions:
  5. Provide electric control-damper actuators, with protective enclosures satisfying the following minimum requirements unless more stringent requirements are indicated. Electric control-damper actuators not available with integral enclosures, complying with requirements indicated, shall be housed in protective secondary enclosures.
  6. Hazardous Locations: Explosion-proof rating for condition.

  8. Control dampers shall be suitable for operation at following conditions:

2.2RECTANGULAR CONTROL DAMPERS

  1. General Requirements:
  2. Unless otherwise indicated, use parallel blade configuration for two-position control, equipment isolation service, and when mixing two airstreams. For other applications, use opposed blade configuration.
  3. Factory assemble multiple damper sections to provide a single damper assembly of size required by the application.

Retain subparagraph below for single source responsibility.

  1. Damper actuator shall be factory installed by damper manufacturer as integral part of damper assembly. Coordinate actuator location and mounting requirements with damper manufacturer.
  1. Rectangular Dampers with Aluminum Airfoil Blades:

Retain "Manufacturers" Subparagraph below and list of manufacturers to require products from manufacturers listed or a comparable product from other manufacturers.

  1. Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide products by one of the following:
  2. Arrow United Industries.
  3. Ruskin Company.
  4. Insert manufacturer's name>.

Requirements in subparagraphs below are based on Ruskin's "CD50series."

  1. Performance:
  2. Leakage: AMCA511, Class1A. Leakage shall not exceed 3 cfm/sq. ft. (15.2L/s per sq.m) against 1-in. wg (250-Pa) differential static pressure.
  3. Pressure Drop: 0.05-in. wg (12.5 Pa) at 1500 fpm (7.6m/s) across a 24-by-24-inch (600-by-600-mm) damper when tested according to AMCA500-D, figure5.3.
  4. Velocity: Up to 6000 fpm (30m/s).
  5. Temperature: Minus 40 to plus 185 degF (Minus 40 to plus 85 degC).
  6. Pressure Rating: Damper close-off pressure equal to fan shutoff pressure with a maximum blade deflection of 1/200 of blade length.
  7. Damper shall have AMCA seal for both air leakage and air performance.
  8. Construction:
  9. Frame:

1)Material: ASTMB211, Alloy6063T5 extruded-aluminum profiles, 0.07 inch (1.8 mm) thick.

2)Hat-shaped channel with integral flange(s). Mating face shall be a minimum of 1 inch (25 mm).

3)Width not less than 5 inches (125 mm).

  1. Blades:

1)Hollow, airfoil, extruded aluminum.

2)Parallel or opposed blade configuration as required by application.

3)Material: ASTMB211, Alloy6063T5 aluminum, 0.07 inch (1.8 mm) thick.

4)Width not to exceed 6 inches (150 mm).

5)Length as required by close-off pressure, not to exceed 48 inches (1200 mm).

  1. Seals:

1)Blades: Replaceable, mechanically attached extruded silicone, vinyl, or plastic composite.

2)Jambs: Stainless steel, compression type.

  1. Axles: 0.5-inch- (13-mm-) diameter [plated] [or] [stainless] steel, mechanically attached to blades.
  2. Bearings:

1)Molded synthetic or stainless-steel sleeve mounted in frame.

2)Where blade axles are installed in vertical position, provide thrust bearings.

  1. Linkage:

1)Concealed in frame.

2)Constructed of aluminum and [plated] [or] [stainless] steel.

3)Hardware: Stainless steel.

  1. Transition:

1)For round and flat oval duct applications, provide damper assembly with integral transitions to mate to adjoining field connection.

2)Factory mount damper in a sleeve with a close transition to mate to field connection.

3)Damper size and sleeve shall be connection size plus 2 inches (50 mm).

4)Sleeve length shall be not less than 12 inches (300 mm) for dampers without jackshafts and shall be not less than 16 inches (450 mm) for dampers with jackshafts.

5)Sleeve material shall match adjacent duct.

Retain "Additional Corrosion Protection for Corrosive Environments" Subparagraph below for applications requiring additional protection against corrosion.

  1. Additional Corrosion Protection for Corrosive Environments:

1)Provide anodized finish for aluminum surfaces in contact with airstream. Anodized finish shall be a minimum of 0.0007 inch (0.018 mm) thick.

2)Axles, damper linkage, and hardware shall be constructed of Type316L stainless steel.

Retain "Airflow Measurement" Subparagraph below for damper applications with integral airflow measurement.

Requirements in subparagraphs below are based on Ruskin's "AMS50series."

  1. Where indicated, provide damper assembly with integral airflow monitoring.
  2. Zero- to 10-Vdc or 4- to 20-mA scaled output signal for remote monitoring of actual airflow.
  3. Accuracy shall be within 5 percent of the actual flow rate between the range of minimum and design airflow. For applications with a large variation in range between the minimum and design airflow, configure the damper sections and flow measurement assembly as required to comply with the stated accuracy over the entire modulating range.
  4. Provide a straightening device as part of the flow measurement assembly to achieve the specified accuracy with configuration indicated.
  5. Suitable for operation in untreated and unfiltered air.
  6. Provide temperature and altitude compensation and correction to maintain accuracy over temperature range encountered at site altitude.
  7. Provide automatic zeroing feature.

Retain "Airflow Control" Subparagraph below for damper applications with integral airflow control.

Requirements in subparagraphs below are based on Ruskin's "IAQ50Xseries."

  1. Where indicated, provide damper assembly with integral airflow measurement and control.
  2. A factory-furnished and -calibrated controller shall be programmed, in nonvolatile EPROM, with application-specific airflow set point and range.
  3. The controller and actuator shall communicate to control the desired airflow.
  4. The controller shall receive a zero- to 10-Vdc input signal and report a zero- to 20-mA output signal that is proportional to the airflow.
  5. Airflow measurement and control range shall be suitable for operation between 150 to 2000 fpm (0.8 to 10m/s).
  6. Ambient Operating Temperature Range: Minus 40 to plus 140 degF (Minus 40 to plus 60 degC).
  7. Ambient Operating Humidity Range: 5 to 95 percent relative humidity, non-condensing.
  8. Provide unit with control transformer rated for not less than 85 VA. Provide transformer with primary and secondary protection and primary disconnecting means. Coordinate requirements with field power connection.
  9. Provide screw terminals for interface to field wiring.
  10. Factory mount electronics within a NEMA250, Type1 painted steel enclosure.
  1. Rectangular Dampers with Steel Airfoil Blades:

  2. Leakage: AMCA511, Class1A. Leakage shall not exceed 3 cfm/sq. ft. (15.2L/s per sq.m) against 1-in. wg (250-Pa) differential static pressure.
  3. Pressure Drop: 0.06-in. wg (15 Pa) at 1500 fpm (7.6m/s) across a 24-by-24-inch (600-by-600-mm) damper when tested according to AMCA500-D, figure5.3.
  4. Velocity: Up to 6000 fpm (30m/s).
  5. Temperature: Minus 40 to plus 185 degF (Minus 40 to plus 85 degC).
  6. Pressure Rating: Damper close-off pressure equal to fan shutoff pressure with a maximum blade deflection of 1/200 of blade length.
  7. Damper shall have AMCA seal for both air leakage and air performance.
  8. Construction:

1)Material: ASTMA653/A653M galvanized-steel profiles, 0.06 inch (1.6 mm) thick.

2)Hat-shaped channel with integral flanges. Mating face shall be a minimum of 1 inch (25 mm).

1)Hollow, airfoil, galvanized steel.

2)Parallel or opposed blade configuration as required by application.

3)Material: ASTMA653/A653M galvanized steel, 0.05 inch (1.3 mm) thick.

4)Width not to exceed 6 inches (150 mm).

5)Length as required by close-off pressure, not to exceed 48 inches (1200 mm).

  1. Seals:

1)Blades: Replaceable, mechanically attached extruded silicone, vinyl, or plastic composite.

2)Jambs: Stainless steel, compression type.

  1. Axles: 0.5-inch- (13-mm-) diameter [plated] [or] [stainless] steel, mechanically attached to blades.
  2. Bearings:

1)Stainless steel mounted in frame.

2)Where blade axles are installed in vertical position, provide thrust bearings.

  3. Pressure Drop: 0.06-in. wg (15 Pa) at 2000 fpm (10m/s) across a 48-by-48-inch (1200-by-1200-mm) damper when tested according to AMCA500-D, figure5.3.
  4. Velocity: Up to 4000 fpm (20m/s).
  5. Temperature: Minus 40 to plus 250 degF (Minus 40 to plus 121 degC).
  6. Pressure Rating: Damper close-off pressure equal to fan shutoff pressure with a maximum blade deflection of 1/200 of blade length, minimum 10-in. wg (2500 Pa).
  7. Construction:
  8. Frame:

1)Material: [Galvanized] [or] [stainless] steel, 0.11 inch (2.8 mm) thick.

2)C-shaped channel. Mating face shall be a minimum of 1 inch (25 mm).
