SECTION 16523 – SPECIALTY EXTERIOR LIGHTING

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1SUMMARY

  1. This Section includes the following:
  2. Exterior specialty luminaires with lamps and ballasts.

1.2PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

  1. Structural Performance: Provide bollard assemblies, including anchorages and foundations.

1.3SUBMITTALS

  1. Product Data: Include data on features, accessories, finishes, and the following:
  2. Physical description of luminary, including materials, and dimensions.
  3. Details of installation.
  4. Ballasts, including energy-efficiency data.
  5. Lamps, including life, output, and energy-efficiency data.
  6. Bases and anchoring, including anchor-bolt templates.
  7. Shop Drawings: Include elevations and details showing general arrangement, anchoring and supporting systems.
  8. Include details of foundation system.

1.4QUALITY ASSURANCE

  1. Electrical Components, Devices, and Accessories: Listed and labeled as defined in NFPA70, Article100, by a testing agency acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction, and marked for intended use.
  2. Comply with NFPA70.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1MANUFACTURERS

  1. Basis of Design Product: Each luminary is based on the product named. Provide the named product or propose a substitution for approval.

2.2LUMINAIRES, GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Comply with UL1598 and be listed and labeled for installation in wet locations.
  2. Corrosion-resistant aluminum, free of burrs and sharp corners and edges.
  3. Exposed Hardware Material: Stainless steel.

2.3BALLASTS FOR HID LAMPS

  1. Comply with ANSIC82.4 and UL1029 and capable of open-circuit operation without reduction of average lamp life. Include the following features, unless otherwise indicated:
  2. Ballast Circuit: Constant-wattage autotransformer or regulating high-power-factor type.
  3. Minimum Starting Temperature: Minus 22 degF.
  4. Normal Ambient Operating Temperature: 104 degF.
  5. Ballast Fuses: One in each ungrounded power supply conductor.

2.4SPECIALTY EXTERIOR LIGHTING DEVICES

  1. In-ground uplight:
  2. Basis-of-Design: Hydrel M9720-ASP-P38100MSP-120-SP-34SNPT-IHL38-STR
  3. Voltage: 120-V ac.
  4. Nominal Dimensions: round, 12-inch diameter.
  5. Lamps: 100W Metal Halide, PAR38, spot distribution.
  6. Lens: Double lens to reduce surface temperature.
  7. Internal Glare Control: Internal Honeycomb Louver
  8. Focusing and Aiming Provisions: 15-degree tilt mechanism.
  9. Trim Ring: Stainless steel.
  10. Bollard:
  11. Basis-of-Design: Landscapeforms “Annapolis”
  12. Voltage: 120-V ac.
  13. Nominal Dimensions: Round, 12-inch diameter.
  14. Lighting: Option as standard with the manufacturer.
  15. Construction: Structural steel tube body, aluminum top and base ring.

1)Finish: Powdercoat in color selected by the Owner.

2.5MISCELLANEOUS MATERIALS

  1. Concrete: Provide concrete composed of portland cement, coarse and fine aggregate, and water mixed in proportions to attain a 28-day compressive strength of not less than 3000 psi, complying with ASTMC94/C94M.
  2. Nonshrink, Nonmetallic Grout: Factory-packaged, nonstaining, noncorrosive, nongaseous grout complying with ASTMC1107.
  3. Sand: ASTMC33, fine aggregate.
  4. Elastomeric Joint Sealant: Multicomponent urethane joint sealant complying with requirements in Division7 Section "Joint Sealants" for UseNT (nontraffic) and for UseM, G, A, and, as applicable to joint substrates indicated, O joint substrates.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1FIELD QUALITY CONTROL

  1. Inspect each installed fixture for damage. Replace damaged fixtures and components.
  2. Foundation Installation: Provide foundations to secure bollards.
  3. Illumination Observations: Verify normal operation of lighting units after installing luminaires and energizing circuits with normal power source.
