2.1ENTRANCE FLOOR GRILLES, GENERAL

  1. Accessibility Standard: Comply with applicable provisions in [the USDOJ's "2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design"] [and] [ICCA117.1] <Insert regulation>.

2.2FLOOR GRILLES

  1. General: Provide manufacturer's standard floor-grille assemblies consisting of treads of type and profile indicated, interlocked or joined together by cross members, and with support legs (if any), and other components needed to produce a complete installation.

Retain one or more of five "Rigid Floor Grille" paragraphs below to suit Project.

  1. Rigid Floor Grille: Extruded-aluminum tread rails 1.5 inches (38.1 mm)o.c. by 1-3/4 inches (44.5 mm) high, sitting on continuous vinyl cushions.

Retain "Basis-of-Design Product" Subparagraph and list of manufacturers below to identify a specific product or a comparable product from manufacturers listed.

Retain one or more of first nine subparagraphs below if retaining "Tread Inserts" Subparagraph above. Multiple inserts may be selected for alternating treads. Two treads may be selected; for example, Premium carpet for absorbing and vinyl for scraping.

  1. Premium Carpet:With 3700-denier, solution-dyed, woven nylon fibers; and shall include a minimum of 100, 10-mil monofilament fibers per inch. Each carpet fiber and monofilament shall be fusion-bonded to a rigid, two-ply backing to prevent fraying and supplied in continuous spliced-free lengths. Fibers shall be treated with anti-stain and anti-static additives.
  2. Rugged Scrub: Crimped, solution-dyed, 600-denier polypropylene fibers tufted into a woven double backing and mechanically secured to tread rails.
  3. Brush: Made with rigid nylon bristles, nine tufts per inch, each tuft containing 80 bristles.
  4. Vinyl: Ribbed-design-surface, resilient vinyl.
  5. Serrated Aluminum: Plain serrated aluminum treads.
  6. Recycled Rubber: Recycled rubber with an SC of 90, manufactured with recycled rubber and EPDM backing.

The cross-support mechanism for the deep pit is aluminum. Rolling-load capacity for this application is 300 lb (136 kg) per wheel.

  1. Rigid Floor Grille: Stainlesssteel tread wires spaced 0.3275 inches (8.3 mm)o.c. by [1.125 inches (28.6 mm)] [0.75 inch (19.1 mm)] high. 0.140- by 0.375-inch- (3.6- by 9.5-mm-) profile wires, mechanically interlocked with U-clip supports and spaced 0.187 inch (4.75 mm) apart.

2.3DRAIN PANS

Retain this article if drain pans are required and available from floor-grille manufacturer for type of floor grille and frame indicated. Otherwise, consider specifying drain pans in Section076200 "Sheet Metal Flashing and Trim."

  1. Provide manufacturer's standard [aluminum, mill finish] [aluminum, primer coat finishwith protective coating recommended by manufacturer] sheet drain pan.

2.4MATERIALS

  1. Metallic-Coated Steel Sheet: ASTMA653/A653M, Commercial Steel (CS), TypeB, with A60 (ZF180) zinc-iron-alloy (galvannealed) coating or with G60 (Z180) mill-phosphatized zinc coating; stretcher-leveled standard of flatness; with minimum thickness indicated representing specified thickness in accordance with ASTMA924/A924M.
  2. StainlessSteel Sheet, Strip, Plate, and Flat Bars: ASTMA666, Type304.
  3. StainlessSteel Angles: ASTMA276 or ASTMA479/A479M, Type304.
  4. Aluminum Sheet: ASTMB209 (ASTMB209M), alloy and temper recommended by aluminum producer and finisher for type of use and finish indicated, and with not less than strength and durability properties of Alloy5005-H15.
  5. Extruded Aluminum: ASTMB221 (ASTMB221M), Alloy6061-T6 or Alloy6063-T5, T6, or T52 as standard with manufacturer.
  6. Extruded Architectural Bronze: ASTMB455, Alloy UNS No.C38500.

2.5FABRICATION

  1. Shop fabricate floor grilles to greatest extent possible in sizes as indicated. Unless otherwise indicated, provide each grille as a single unit; do not exceed manufacturer's recommended maximum sizes for units that are removed for maintenance and cleaning. Where joints in grilles are necessary, space symmetrically and away from normal traffic lanes.
  2. Fabricate frame members in single lengths or, where frame dimensions exceed maximum available lengths, provide minimum number of pieces possible, with hairline joints equally spaced and pieces spliced together by straight connecting pins.
  3. Coat surface of aluminum in contact with cementitious materials with manufacturer's standard protective coating.

2.6ALUMINUM FINISHES

If retaining more than one finish in paragraphs below, indicate location of each on Drawings or by inserts.

  1. Mill finish.

Retain one of two options in "Clear Anodic Finish" Paragraph below. Verify availability with manufacturers.

  1. Clear Anodic Finish: AAMA611, [AA-M12C22A41, ClassI, 0.018 mm] [AA-M12C22A31, ClassII, 0.010 mm] or thicker.

Retain one of two options in "Color Anodic Finish" Paragraph below. Verify availability with manufacturers.

  1. Color Anodic Finish: AAMA611, [AA-M12C22A42/A44, ClassI, 0.018 mm] [AA-M12C22A32/A34, ClassII, 0.010 mm] or thicker.

2.7STAINLESSSTEEL FINISHES

  1. Surface Preparation: Remove tool and die marks and stretch lines, or blend into finish.
  2. Polished Finishes: Grind and polish surfaces to produce uniform finish, free of cross scratches.

Retain first subparagraph below for directional finishes.

  1. Run grain of directional finishes with long dimension of each piece.
  2. When polishing is completed, passivate and rinse surfaces. Remove embedded foreign matter and leave surfaces chemically clean.
  3. Directional Satin Finish: No.4.
  1. Mill finish.

2.8COPPER-ALLOY (BRONZE) FINISHES

  1. Finish designations prefixed by CDA comply with the system established by the Copper Development Association for designating copper-alloy finishes, as defined in NAAMM's "Metal Finishes Manual for Architectural and Metal Products."
  2. Surface Preparation: Remove tool and die marks and stretch lines, or blend into finish.
  3. Polished Finishes: Grind and polish surfaces to produce uniform finish, free of cross scratches.

Retain subparagraph below for directional finishes.

  1. Run grain of directional finishes with long dimension of each piece.

Retain one of two options in "CDA Mechanical Finish Designation" Paragraph below. If retaining first option, delete subparagraphs above.
