SECTION 11 52 13.13 - PROJECTION SCREENS

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.01 RELATED DOCUMENTS

A. Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 1 Specification Sections, apply to this Section.

1.02 SECTION INCLUDES

A. Manually Operated Front Projection Screens

1. Classroom projection screens supplied by Owner, installed by General Contractor.

2. Wall mounted with brackets on wood trim board.

B. Electrically Operated Front Projection Screens

1. Ceiling mounted; recessed cabinet at Lecture Hall 131.

2. Suspended from ceiling in Upper Atrium 236.

C. Refer to drawings for locations, quantity, and sizes.

1.04 SUBMITTALS

A. Product data: Submit manufacturer's product data and installation instructions for each type of screen indicated.

B. Wiring diagram: Submit manufacturer's wiring diagram for electrically-operated units.

C. Shop drawings showing layout and types of projection screens. Show the following:

1. Location of screen centerline.

2. Location of wiring connections, where required.

3. Seams in viewing surfaces.

4. Connections to suspension systems for pendant-mounted and recess-mounted screens.

5. Anchorage details.

6. Accessories

7. Frame details

1.05 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Single Source Responsibility: Obtain each type of projection screen required from a single manufacturer as a complete unit, including necessary mounting hardware and accessories.

B. Coordination of Work: Coordinate layout and installation of projection screens with other construction.

1.06 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A. Do not deliver projection screens until building is enclosed, other construction within spaces where screens will be installed is substantially complete, and installation of screens is ready to take place.

B. Protect screens from damage during delivery, handling, storage, and installation.

2.02 CEILING MOUNTED ELECTRICALLY OPERATED FRONT PROJECTION SCREEN –LECTURE HALL 151 SIMILAR TO DA-LITE BOARD ROOM ELECTROL

A. Provide manufacturer’s standard UL-listed and UL-marked units consisting of case, screen, motor, controls, mounting accessories, and other components required for a complete installation and to comply with requirements indicated for screen surface and controls and for case, motor, and screen under description of operation and type. Remotely control operation of each screen to comply with requirements indicated for screen surface and controls and for case, motor, and screen under description of operation and type. Remotely control operation of each screen to comply with the following:

1. Single Station Control: Three-position, UL-listed control switch for each screen with metal device box and cover plate for flush wall mounting (recessed) and for connection to building power supply.

B. Electrically operated 120 volt AC (60 Hz), 2.4 amp. Three wire quick reversal motor especially designed for the purpose shall be ball bearing and oiled for life, with automatic thermal overload cutout and integral interlocking gears. To have pre-set but accessible limit switches to automatically stop screen fabric in the “up” and “down” position. Stop action shall be positive to prevent coasting. Rigid metal roller at least 5 inches(127mm) in diameter. Roller shall be mounted on two cast aluminum brackets equipped with self-aligning bearings.

1. Entire drive unit shall be easily removable from case.

C. Case shall be of wood, with double top for extra rigidity and strength. Motor compartment shall be metal lined. Case shall be furnished with heavy metal brackets for mounting to ceiling as detailed.

1. Flush mount bottom of case with finished ceiling. Paint exposed portions of case black.

2. Bottom panel for motor compartment only.

D. Screen: As indicated below, with top edge mounted on, and securely anchored to, rigid metal roller supported by self-aligning bearings in brackets.

1. Material: Flame retardant and mildew resistant matte white viewing surface with blackmasking borders.

2. Seamless screen; welded seams are not acceptable in screens 10 feet x 10 high or smaller. In screens larger than 10 x 10 feet, seam to be in lower one-third of screen.

3. Screen Size: 12 feet wide by 9 feet high (ADD#1)with black “extra drop” at top of screen to lower picture area to within 3 feet(914mm) of floor.

2.03 ELECTRICALLY OEPRATED FRONT PROJECTION SCREEN – UPPER ATRIUM 236 SIMILAR TO DA-LITE PROFESSIONAL ELECTROL

A. Provide manufacturer’s standard UL-listed and UL-marked units consisting of case, screen, motor, controls, mounting accessories, and other components required for a complete installation and to comply with requirements indicated for screen surface and controls and for case, motor, and screen under description of operation and type. Remotely control operation of each screen to comply with the following:

1. Single Station Control: Three-position, UL-listed control switch for each screen with metal device box and cover plate for flush wall mounting (recessed) and for connection to building power supply.

B. Electrically operated, 120 volt (60 Hz), 2.4 amp. Shall have specially designed motor mounted inside the roller with a noise silencer to be three wire quick reversal type, oiled for life, with automatic thermal overload cutout, integral gears, capacitor and an electric brake to prevent coasting. Pre-set but adjustable limit switches to automatically stop picture surface in the “up” and “down” positions. The roller shall be of rigid metal, 3 inch(76mm) diameter, mounted on two vibration and noise supports.

C. Case shall be of wood, with double top for extra rigidity and strength. Motor compartment shall be metal lined. Case shall be furnished with heavy metal brackets for suspended mounting from ceiling as detailed, see 12/A4.4 (ADD#1)

1.  Provide Hardwood valance as detailed – finish as directed by architect. (ADD#1)

D. Screen: As indicated below, with top edge mounted on, and securely anchored to, rigid metal roller supported by self-aligning bearings in brackets.

1. Material: Flame retardant and mildew resistant matte white viewing surface with black masking borders.

2. In screens larger than 10 x 10 feet, seam to be in lower one-third of screen.

3. Screen Size: 20 feet wide x 15 feet high (ADD#1) with black “extra drop” at top of screen to lower picture area to within 3 feet(914mm) of floor.

E. Accessories included in Base Bid

1. Ceiling Brackets: Heavy duty gage angle steel with baked enamel finish to match screen case.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.01 INSTALLATION

A. Install projection screens at location indicated in compliance with screen manufacturer’s instructions.

B. Install front projection screens with screen cases in position and relationship to adjoining work indicated, securely anchored to supporting substrate, and in manner which produces a smoothly operating screen with plumb and straight vertical edges and plumb and flat viewing surfaces when lowered.

C. Test electrically-operated units to verify that screen, controls, limit switches, closure and other operating components are in optimum functioning condition.
