DIVISION 03 CONCRETE

CO2 MINERALIZATION SPECIFICATION INSERT LANGUAGE

CarbonCure works with existing ready mixed concrete producers to recycle carbon dioxide into concrete. CarbonCure’s technology introduces waste carbon dioxide into the concrete production process, where the CO2is chemically converted into a mineral within the concrete (i.e. the CO2 is mineralized). CarbonCure’s producer partners supply ready mixed concrete to the market that have been made with CarbonCure’s CO2 recycling technology.

This document is provided to assist design professionals in including CarbonCure ready mixed concrete in specifications for projects in the United States and Canada.

This document and CarbonCure's guide specifications are available in word processing format at www.carboncure.com.

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.X ENVIRONMENTAL / SUSTAINABLE DESIGN REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Carbon dioxide mineralization in concrete:Supply concrete that has undergone active carbonation treatment during mixing such that carbon dioxide (CO2) is injected during mixing and is mineralized within the concrete (i.e. CO2 is chemically converted into a mineral within the concrete). Carbon dioxide injected into the mix must be post-industrial CO2 sourced from a nearby emitter.Provide concrete producers certificate outlining quantity, location and supplier of carbon dioxide.Acceptable technologies: CarbonCure Ready Mixed Concrete Technology.

2.X INFORMATIONAL SUBMITTALS

  1. Certificates:

For CarbonCure concrete products, insert certificate requirement below.

  1. Carbon dioxide mineralization: Provide concrete producers certificate verifying mineralization of carbon dioxide. Include quantity, location and supplier of injected CO2.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.X CONCRETE, GENERAL

Because the CarbonCure process is the only active carbon mineralization process for concrete and is only available through the named producers, it has no known equal. The CarbonCure technology applies to CarbonCure branded ready mixed concrete. If the project requires substitutions to be considered, edit the paragraph below to indicate where substitution requirements are specified.

  1. Substitution Limitations:
  2. Substitutions of concrete are not permitted.

2.Y CONCRETE

Producers listed below offer CarbonCure concrete. Visit www.carboncure.com, or contact CarbonCure at or 1.902.442.4020, for updated production and distribution information for CarbonCure concrete.

Insert the following as a sustainable design attribute of the specified concrete. For distribution locations of CarbonCure products, visit www.carboncure.com or contact CarbonCure at or 1.902.442.4020.

  1. Carbonation of concrete:For all concrete types specified, provide concrete that has undergone carbonation treatment with carbon dioxide (CO2) during mixing, such that CO2is chemically mineralized into concrete.Acceptable technologies: CarbonCure Ready Mixed Concrete Technology.
