SECTION 03123–EPS GEOFOAM

PART 1–GENERAL DESCRIPTION

1.01 RELATED DOCUMENTS

  1. Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and SupplementaryConditions and Division 1 Specification Sections and manufacturer’s shop drawings apply to this section.

1.02SUMMARY

  1. Provide EPS Geofoam blocks that have been factory fabricated to fit project dimensions minimizing field cutting and site generated waste.
  2. Related Sections include the following:
  3. Division 3 Section “Cast-in-Place Concrete” for concrete feinforcing and slabs poured on top of permanent riser forms.

1.03PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

  1. Structural Performance: ProvideMolded, Rigid Cellular Polystyrene EPS Geofoam Blocks: Comply with manufacturer's requirements, ASTM D6817 or ASTM C578

1. Design Loads: As indicated.

1.04SUBMITTALS

  1. Shop Drawings: Show layout and dimensions of each Geofoam fill area. Indicate location, size, and elevation . Provide cross section of each platform area indicating height and depth of each fill area. Provide plan view of each layer of EPS with each part identified and dimensioned per the Geofoam Component Schedule.

1.05DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

  1. Protect GeofoamEPS Block as follows:
  2. Do not expose to sunlight, except to extent necessary for period of installation and concealment;
  3. Protect against ignition at all times;
  4. Do not deliver EPS materials to project site before installation time;
  5. Complete installation and concealment of EPS materials as rapidly as possible in each area of construction.

PART2-PRODUCTS

2.01MANUFACTURER

2.02MATERIALS

  1. Molded, Rigid Cellular Polystyrene EPS Geofoam Blocks: Comply with manufacturer's requirements, ASTM D6817 or ASTM C578

2.05FABRICATION

  1. Fabricate EPS blocks, square, and true to dimension.
  1. Factory cut block for delivery to jobsite and installation without the need for excessive field cutting.
  2. Retrofit Projects, fabricate block with slope consistent to existing floor slope;
  3. Ramp areas, fabricate block with slope consistent with ramp slope requirements.
  1. Marking and Identification: Individual GeofoamEPS blocks shall be marked corrosponding to shop drawings for installation

PART 3 - EXECUTION

EXAMINATION

  1. Examine supporting substrates and abutting structural framing for compliance with requirements for elevations, installation tolerances and other conditions affecting performance. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.

3.01GENERAL INSTALLATION

  1. Install system in compliance with Architects plans and installation/shop drawings as prepared by manufacturer.
  2. EPS Geofoam BlockInstallation: Install blocks in layers and locations as specified on shop drawings. Hold dimensions on shop drawings and Architect's plans.
  1. Place non-solvent based adhesivebetween each layer of EPS to tack in place during assembly;

NOTE: Do not weld with torch in the same room as installed or stored EPS. Protect EPS against ignition at all times.
