Secondary Recently Qualified Teachers (RQTs) Programme

AIMS

This programme will focus on supporting RQTs to undertake a small scale classroom action research project in their school which links into each school's strategic priorities. They will have the opportunity to network with each other and visit another school to inform their project. They will also have the opportunity to hear from other colleagues who have used action research successfully to develop their approach in the classroom.

TARGET AUDIENCE

Secondary school teachers in their second, third or fourth year of teaching who are reflective practitioners aspiring to leadership progression in the future.

INTENDED OUTCOMES

  • Research will aim to bring about a development in each teacher's classroom practice which will have a demonstrable impact on students' attitudes and behaviours.
  • Establishing a network of support and shared practice for RQTs
  • Nurturing potential leadership abilities in the RQT cohort.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

A focus on sharing developments so far, refining thinking and preparing for the mini presentation in the final session. / 4.15pm* – 5.30pm / Wednesday 3rd May 2017 / Queen’s Hall, Keswick School
A celebration event in the form of a mini conference where participants will present the projects and their findings to each other. / 4.15pm* – 5.30pm / Thursday 29th June 2017 / Queen’s Hall, Keswick School

REQUIREMENTS

  • Participants must be willing to become fully engaged in the programme, attend all sessions, complete a small scale action research project and prepare a short presentation for the final session based upon the learning undertaken on the course.
  • Each participant must be supported by an in school mentor who will meet with them between sessions and support the completion of the project in school. The mentor is invited to attend all three sessions but are required to attend both sessions 1 and 3.

COSTS & HOW TO APPLY

The programme is being subsidised by the Western Lakes Teaching School Alliance (WLTSA) and is therefore offered at a delegate rate of £30 to cover course materials, venue costs and refreshments.
