COMMENTS: Just spent an hour or two looking round the site. It was excellent! Well done. I thought I recognised quite a few names, although that isn't one of my better skills (remembering I mean). If anybody out there knows me, it would be great to hear from you. I attended Stocktonwood Primary til '58 (ish), then Speke Boys school til '62 (ish). I have a younger brother Brian and we lived in Clough Rd and Wellbrook Green. I was confirmed at All Saints in 1960 by the Bishop (I think), could've been Archbishop. Was in Cubs in church hall. Later moved to St Aidens.

Left Speke in 1970 (?) - told you the memory was good - and moved to Australia. Been here ever since.

Who am I?? Where am I????

Just kidding. Thanks for the site and guestbook.

COMMENTS: Lynne, I remember you for the church back in the late seventies. I was a Choirboy then and an Alter boy. Back when Bruce Lang was the vicar. It's a great shame you haven't mentioned him on this site because he had a great hand in rescueing a lot of young souls from very bleak futures (me included). However it's very nice to see the old place still going strong in C21. I bet they still have my cassock, hanging in the vestery.

I think it would be an excellent idea to have a Stockton Wood reunion, as long as I can bring along my size eleven black plimsole and us it on one or two teachers that I'm sure deserve a wake or two!

COMMENTS: Well! this is a great site Lynne - congratulations. Brought back many memories and names for us. Pam lived at 42 Bray Rd and John about the same distance on the other side of Western Ave at 29 Tarbock. We were both at Stocktonwood Rd school at different ends in those days( left in 1953). And active in Brownies, guides , sea rangers, cubs , scouts and senior scouts - wher are our great pals of those days - les Mulligan, Mike Rodgers, Doug Tinsley, George & Eileen Roberts, Neil Thomas, Wendy Flood, Sandra Fearon, Joyce Worthington, Irene Brownrigg. Pam took Brownies with Joan Edis (who passed away earler this year at the grand old age of 92/3)Remember wide games in Damwoods and paper chases as far as Woolton. Also the youth club - Geoff ward ran it for a while - pam Wall, Pamela rose, John Nicholson were a few who went there. Scout and Guide dances in the rickety old Guide Hall using Johns portable record palyer (1959). We married in 1964 and lived in Aigburth Vale, Dunstable and Kelsall before emigrating to New zealand with our 6 children in 1975. Johns mum now lives in Appledore Rd (she talks of you Lynne). Pams parents live at Barnton, as does her twin Pauline.Lynne, cant access the pics on scouts etc? Some day will send you many of photos we took of guide and scout activities in mid 50s to 1963

Lynne: Wow! More entries like this please!

The last contacts, Joey Dillworh, Ken Pritchard & Eddie Holmes are actually friends of my older brother Michael Murray, but it is fantastic to hear from any friends of our family. My mum still lives in Fenton Close, she is 88 years old and she does not believe that we can still be in contact with the Dillworths and the Holmes and the Pritchards of this world. Thank you again for giving us the opportunity to be able to relive some of our best memories of our past.

Best wishes for the future,

Peter Murray

COMMENTS: Thanks for your letter Lynne.

I attended Stocktonwood Rd School from 1946 and transferred to the new school in Central Ave and then to Stapleton Ave. (Boys only) The headmaster at this time was Mr. Kneale. Met my wife, Marie at the Central Ave night school dance and we've been married for 40 years. (Phew!) Lived in South Africa for seven years and been in Canada 26 years. I remember the Murray family in Fenton Close. I used to pal around with Mike Murray, Eddie Holmes and Joey Dillworth. Would love to hear from them again. Last time I was in Liverpool was 1994. Thanks for your great web site.

Take care Ken

Was told about this site by my brother Roy.Remember you from APPH days I retired early 12 months ago after 47 yrs.

Find your guest book comments very interesting to read, will spend more time looking through them. Some of the names I can recall...Colin Patterson,Alf Brownrigg and one I have not heard of since I was at school Syd Abernethy..from Ramsgate Close I think.

I also recall Sunday school, Church and youth club from the 50s and 60s.

Anyway I'll leave it there.

Cheers John

COMMENTS: Having spent time last night looking at the site properly and reading all the guest book entries, I thought I'd come back and fill in some details about me.

I lived in Speke (Hale Rd) with my mother, Gloria (who ran the dance classes at All Saints Church Hall) and my grandparents, Jimmy & Mercy Smith. Jimmy died in 1973, and Mercy in 1974, and we then moved to Runcorn.

I went to Stocktonwood school, and also attended the Sunday school (with Mrs Hill?) and Girl Guides (With Mrs Haslam) at All Saints.

I still come back to Speke each week, as I have followed in my mother's footsteps and still dance - now teaching Line Dancing at the Metal Box club, although I gave up the tap & ballet about 2 years ago.
