Membership – North Arm Sailing Club Inc. ('Club')
Dear Prospective Member,
Thanks for your interest in joining our club. We are currently reviewing our waiting list and ongoing requirements. The committee emphasises that, although it is considering ways of expanding the storage capacity of the boat shed, there are no vacant spaces in the boat shed at present, and there is no guarantee that any proposal to modify the boatshed would be approved by members and the authorities, or would proceed in any event.
As the club is an incorporated association, we have attached the application form prescribed by the Regulations under the Associations Incorporation Act, and some information about membership of the Club for your consideration.
If you are still interested in membership, we request that you complete the attached form and return it to:
The Honorary Secretary
North Arm Sailing Club Inc.
PO Box 4210
Castlecrag NSW 2068
Please note that no significance is attached to the precise date by which you return the attached form. Your previous expression of interest will remain on file. It may also assist the Club's planning if you also could let us know:
(a) what style of boating you would prefer to carry on from the Club, eg sailing, rowing, kayaking, tinny;
(b) whether you currently own a boat that you would like to be able to keep in the boatshed, and if so, its description and dimensions, or what type and size of boat you would prefer to keep in the boatshed if you were a member.
Enquiries may be emailed to
Thank you for your co-operation.
Yours sincerely,
Seamus Campbell
Secretary NASC

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE NORTH ARM SAILING CLUB INC.
The Club provides the following information to applicants:
1. The Club is an Incorporated Association under the Associations Incorporation Act, 1984 (NSW) and membership is regulated by the Act, regulations and the Club’s rules. The attached application form is the form set out in Appendix 1 of the model rules prescribed by the Associations Incorporation Regulation 1999. Rule 3(1) states as follows:
3 Nomination for membership
(1) A nomination of a person for membership of the association:
(a) must be made by a member of the association in writing in the form set out in Appendix 1 to these rules, and
(b) must be lodged with the secretary of the association.
2. The Club is a not-for-profit, community based organisation using voluntary labour, and members are expected to use their best endeavours to assist from time to time with maintenance or other work for the Club.
3. The Club’s facilities are limited and this is a factor the committee takes into account when considering applications. Applications are subject to acceptance or rejection by the committee (in its absolute discretion).
4. Membership is by natural persons. Please ensure that applications nominate one individual only, not, for example, a family.
5. Membership is not transferable, so memberships may not be sold, assigned or otherwise dealt with by a member. However, if a member resigns or dies and another family member applies, the Committee will take those circumstances into account when considering the application.
6. Members fund the operation of the Club in a number of ways. An indication of the amounts payable by a new member is as follows:
a) Non-refundable joining fee $960
b) Unsecured interest free loan (see 7.) $400
c) Current year’s subscription (see 8.) $120
Total $1480
(Note: these amounts were current as at December 2006. The amount and makeup of fees may be changed from time to time and new members will be told the correct amounts if the committee accepts an application. Do not send money with an application unless told to do otherwise by the Secretary.)
7. The unsecured interest free loan provides working capital for the Club and interest income. The amount (if any) to be refunded on cessation of membership is at the absolute discretion of the committee, and the applicant agrees that any amount owed by him or her to the Club may be set off against the loan, and acknowledges that member loans will rank behind all other general creditors in a winding up. All members may be required to add to their loans at any time if the Club needs additional funds.
8. The annual subscription as at December 2006 was $120, ($160 if late). Annual subscriptions run from 30 September each year and new members joining between 31 March and 30 September of any year need only pay half the current year’s subscription (or other amount approved by the committee).
