School Advisory Council Meeting Minutes

March 15, 2018

The SAC meeting started at 10:35 a.m. in the Seagull’s School Cafeteria and was chaired by Ms. Renee Hudson (SAC Chair-person).

Welcome and Pledge by Ms. Hudson

The minutes from February 15, 2018was reviewed and approved with no corrections to be made. (A copy of the Attendance sheet is attached)

Administrative Report –Mr. Bonnie Clemon, Jr. Principal

  • Mr. Clemon acknowledged Women History Month for the achievements and contributions made to society by women
  • Women History essay contest-prizes gift cards and grand prize a new laptop
  • Early release will be March 22, 2018, Teacher Planning March 23, 2018 and Spring break March 26-30, 2018
  • Safety and security is our number one priority: ID badges should be worn at all times, students should be in their assigned class, be aware of your surroundings and if you see something unusual please report it to anadult, teacher, administration, etc.
  • In order to meet your graduation requirements students must be present in school and take the required tests. After Spring break there will be a short period of time to test for seniors, Retake Algebra EOC and FSA writing must be done by April 6, 2018.
  • Students are encouraged to take advantage of testing opportunities: PERT and EOC.

School Improvement Plan (SIP) Update

Graduation Requirements (24 Credits)If you were a student who entered 9th grade during the 2014/2015, the following would be your requirements for graduation. Virtual Counselor is a running record to see where you are and what you need to graduate.

  • Have at least a 2.0 Unweighted Grade Point Average (GPA)
  • Do a minimum of 40 Community service hours

Assessments:

Pass grade 10 ELA statewide, standardized assessment or ACT/SAT concordant score

Take the Grade 11 ELA statewide standardized assessment

Pass the Algebra 1 EOC with a level three or higher for graduation and 30% f final grade or PERT comparative score

Take Geometry EOC for 30% of final grade

Take Algebra 2 EOC for 30% of final grade

Take Biology EOC for 30% of final grade

Take the US History EOC for 30% of final grade

Total Credits to include:

English (ELA) = 4 Credits English 1, 2, 3 and 4

Math=4 credits that include Algebra 1, Geometry and 2 additional credits in Math

Science = 3 credits that include Biology, +2 equally rigorous science courses for example Chemistry and Physics

Social Studies =3 credits that must include World History, US History, US Government (.50), Economics with Financial Literacy (.50)

24 Total credits to include:

Required Electives

1 credit of Performing/Fine Arts, Speech or Debate, approved Practical Arts Courses

1 credit of Physical Education with Integration of Health and 1 Online course

Electives

8 additional elective credits of the students choice

Students must be present in school and taking the required test: PERT, FSA and EOC exams.

May 24, 2018 is the last day of school for seniors and they must have taken care of obligations, credits and service hours to graduate.

The Graduation ceremony will be held on June 4, 2018 at the Dillard High School Performing Arts Center at 7:00 p.m.

There is a flyer passed out by Dr. Major about an Alternate Spring Break for middle and

High school students to work on getting their service hours. There will be workshops, beach clean up, etc.

Dr. Major has information on a talent contest Teen Sensation Life. The deadline to register is March 31, 2018. The talent show consisting of singing, dancing, poetry, etc.

Ms. Lang is the contact person for the Essay contest on Women’s History Month. The essay should be 400 to 500 words. Prizes are gift cards and grand prize a new laptop.

Senior Updates

  • GRAD BASH is on April 28, 2018 in conjunction with Dillard High School. There will be a pre party held at City walk. The price is 181.50 and should be paid ASAP.
  • Cap and Gown ordering is on April 25, 2018. The price is $44.00
  • Still need fundraising ideas
  • Snack Shack is Monday, Wednesday and Thursday during lunch
