POSITION TITLE:ScSEED Director

WORK LOCATION:From home, and other locations throughout Saguache County/SLV as necessary.

SUPERVISED BY:ScSEED Board

SUPERVISES: AmeriCorps VISTA, volunteers, interns and/or other staff

WORKS WITH:ScSEED Board and committees; partner organizations; funders; media and the public.

NORMAL WORKING HOURS: Part-time, 15-20 hours weekly, flexing hours as necessary.

(Some evenings and occasional weekends.)

COMPENSATION:Hourly contract employee. $20 - $35 / hour, DOE.

ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW:

ScSEED’s mission is to work together as a community to develop a sustainable economy that builds on our existing strengths, contributes to a strong integrated community, and protects the environment, rural lifestyle, and character of Saguache County. In the past ScSEED has provided assistance and fiscal sponsorship in a variety of projects including: the Saguache downtown revitalization project, the Kerber Creek restoration project, the Crestone Energy Fair, and many more. POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ScSEED Director will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for the organizations programs, expansion, and execution of its mission. The Director will coordinate the continuous development, implementation, and reporting of fundraising proposals and grants in support of ScSEED projects. The Director will also manage administrative duties including: financial tracking and reporting; non-profit tracking; general business filing; grant management and reporting; and board meeting coordination. Additionally the Director will oversee and implement ScSEED programs and projects to include: event coordination; volunteer coordination; marketing of ScSEED through Press Releases and other communications to the public; Email and telephone communications and organization to maintain ScSEED’s goals on track according to direction form the Board of Directors.

SUMMARY OF KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Knowledge:

• Excellent computer and technical skills with Word or OpenOffice, Excel, emails, etc.

• Detail oriented and ABSOLUTELY reliable project tracking and administrative skills to meet any and every deadline and business requirement.

• Good interpersonal and social skills – ability to mediate or present at meetings and facilitate positive interactions between groups of people involved with ScSEED.

• Excellent organizational management skills, filing, accessing and sharing electronic and paper information.

• Some knowledge and experience with economic development

• Understanding and appreciation of San Luis Valley culture, history, environment, agriculture, organizations and economic development efforts.

• Understanding of concepts of community capacity and sustainable community development.

• Knowledge of community development funding sources including the ability to find, procure and report according to grant requirements for ongoing grants to fund ScSEED objectives.

• Knowledge of current and leading edge organizational development methods and resources.

Experience:

• Demonstrated ability to work well with a diverse group of people.

• Experience in rural community development, especially with grassroots community organizations and public-private sector cooperation.

• Extensive and proven computer, software, and administrative experience.

• Experience in fundraising, procuring and managing non-profit grants through their full life-cycle and in accessing and disseminating resources necessary to achieve ScSEED community goals.

• Preferred background in business, small business development, and/or economic development

JOB FUNCTIONS:

Leadership & Management:

  • Ensure ongoing local programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems; recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals
  • Actively engage and energize ScSEED volunteers, board members, event committees, alumni, partnering organizations, and funders
  • Develop, maintain, and support a strong Board of Directors: seek and build board involvement with strategic direction for current programs and new opportunities
  • Lead, coach, develop, and retain ScSEED VISTA members and staff
  • Ensure effective systems to track scaling progress, and regularly evaluate program components, so as to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the board, funders, and other constituents

Fundraising, Administration & Communications:

  • Expand and diversify local revenue generating and fundraising activities to support existing program operations and regional expansion
  • Research, write and report on grants for a variety of projects and programs
  • Coordinate ScSEED Membership Program
  • Provide bookkeeping and financial management services for the organization
  • Expand local outreach and communications—from web presence to external relations with the goal of creating a stronger brand
  • Use external presence and relationships to garner new program opportunities
