Current Events:On Tuesday, we had a wonderful field trip to the Churchville Library where every student played bingo, saw a puppet show on community workers, heard a story, and toured the children’s section of the library. Thanks so much to Si Ying Li for being a chaperon on this trip! This week we have practiced 2 drills—a fire drill on Tuesday and on Thursday, we had an earthquake drill. The children looked so nice for our school pictures today! On Thursday, we had a special snack with monster cookies, popcorn, and apple juice to thank Ms. Turner for working with us the past 8 weeks. Thanks so much for signing and returning your child’s report card jacket. Remember, tonight is BME movie night at 6:30.

Science: We have been exploring with concept of what liquids do or don’t mix with other liquids.

Math: In Math we have been learning how to make different kinds of graphs this week. We have made concrete graphs and bar graphs this week. We are looking at our graphs and learning to use the math vocabulary of more, most, least, less, more than, less than, and equal. If your child goes trick -or –treating, agreat home follow-up activity to do with your child would be having your child to sort his/her treats, to make a concrete (real) graph, and to count his/her collection of Halloween treats. Also, making tally marks to count his/her candies, to skip count groups of 5, counting on what is not a group of 5 are other ways to practice math skills at home. When showing tally marks, please “close the gate” when making a group of 5 ( 1111 or 1111 ). As you review tally marks, model a number in tally marks to see if your child can tell you the number that you are showing in tallies, counting the tally groups by 5’s and counting on the ones from the last tally group. Today and Monday, we are doing a STEAM activity during Math involving pumpkin seeds.

Language Arts:We practiced our upper case letters—S and I for Handwriting. They wrote about their favorite things that they did with Ms. Turner in a letter. Although we have completed instruction for the lower case letters, the children need to use the letter strokes that they learned in any writing that we do for school.

Social Studies:We have been learning about another author, Norman Bridwell, creator of “Clifford” book series and reading Clifford stories. We’ll begin a unit of study about patriotic symbols, where we will start by learning about voting to elect a president and vice president.

Over, please…
