SCHOOLSITE COUNCIL MEETING NOTES

4:30-6:00 p.m.

  1. Call to Order 4:30 PM by Dr. Ryan
  2. Review of Minutes from April meeting accepted
  3. Present at the meeting:
  4. 16 staff
  5. 5 students
  6. 8 parents
  7. Facilities status
  8. MPR met w/ LAUSD attorneys re: final offer of 16 classrooms, 1 office, use of Agricultural Area across street.
  9. District remains steadfast in offer of above only
  10. NVMI proposed alternate request for additional space including small gym for military HQ and placement of tents on the campus property
  11. Also proposed additional classrooms based on NVMI needs
  12. Discussed that district believes school is maxed out in available classroom space because of student enrollment at Sun Valley campus
  13. Numbers of unavailable classrooms may include set-asides that NVMI proposes be re-designated not set-asides e.g. culinary arts, computer labs, parent center, counseling office, career and college center
  14. Sun Valley says they’re occupying 20 classrooms and remainder are set-asides
  15. NVMI proposed question whether set-asides could be reconsidered and whether Sun Valley’s projected enrollment is accurate
  16. There continues to be disagreement over the actual enrollments of both schools, so NVMI has asked for clarification on that issue
  17. District will respond by Wed 5/20. NMVI will reply when responses are received
  18. Current situation has impacted move plan as we are not yet sure which rooms will be occupied, thus limiting ability pack and designate delivery location.
  19. Temporary office space may be needed for interim between pack-up dates (5/29 for teachers and 6/19 for office)
  20. NVMI has met with Food Service personnel from SVHS and they are anxious to work with us on providing quality breakfast, lunch, and supper meals to students
  21. SVHS food service would also provide summer meals because they are a summer meal service provider
  22. 2015-2016 Bus Plan: Currently have 150 interested students in 3 routes
  23. Sylmar along San Fernando Road
  24. Rinaldi beginning at Tampa
  25. Parthenia beginning at Tampa
  26. 1st stop at 6am Bus times changed to 5:00 PM departure
  27. Also will likely have a van service form North Hollywood and Burbank
  28. Some parents seem confused by school bus option and are thinking kids would be traveling on public transport; staff need to help dispel those myths

  1. Rolling Admissions Camps to maintain enrollment throughout year
  2. Begin Sat/Sun 20hrs before beginning classes
  3. 20 additional hours 6:45-7:30 M-F and 3:30-6:30 M-F
  1. WASC Progress Report Chapter 2 (see posted document)
  2. Teams worked on WASC progress report document to provide input on how NVMI has responded to original action plan and recommendations of initial visit committee and three year follow up committee
  3. Those documents go to Laura Stribling who will compile them for Chapter 2 draft
  4. SSC will review drafts of chapters beginning in the fall
  5. Visit is in January 2016
  6. LCAP
  7. LCAP has been discussed extensively at previous SSC meetings
  8. People given copies of latest LCAP
