Schools Should Recycle

By: Baylie Rathfon

Yay! A lot of schools have started to recycle! More schools should recycle because it will reduce the number of landfills (and problems related to landfills), conserve paper, and there will be less pollution.

.

First, your school should recycle because it will reduce the number of landfills and related problems. According to Warwick County Council (

Landfilling waste, particularly biodegradable waste such as cardboard, paper, wood, garden and food waste, produces methane. Methane is a potent greenhouse gas that contributes significantly to climate change. When biodegradable waste is broken down in the presence of air, carbon dioxide is produced. When it breaks down in the absence of air (which is what occurs in landfill sites), methane gas is produced. Weight for weight, methane is 21 times more powerful than carbon dioxide as a green house gas.

Reducing the number of landfills will prevent methane leakage because there will be less landfills to leak. Also, there won’t be as much plastic lining in the ground that rips and goes in the ground. If there aren’t as many landfills, there will be more space to build homes. It will also prevent animals from eating the garbage. Landfills (and problems related to landfills) is one reason why schools should recycle.

Second, schools should recycle because it conserves paper. There won’t be as many trees cut down. One way to conserve paper is to cut the edge of the paper, not the middle. This saves trees becauseyou will use less paper. If you do not use as much paper there will not be as many trees cut down.

“According to eco cycle ()recycling 1 ton of paper saves 17 trees.” This is the second reason why schools should recycle.

Third, schools should recycle because it will help to stop pollution. It will help stop the gas from factories getting in the air. The things that we could recycle is being re-made at factories and causes more air pollution. There won’t be as much garbage on the ground if we recycle. Stopping pollution isthe third reason why schools should recycle.

Schools should recycle because it will reduce the number of landfills, conserve paper to save trees, and help stop pollution.“Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted,”Jesus Christ once said.
Recycling will help make our world a better, wealthier place.
