School Procedure for Fire Bell During Class Time

January-August 2014

If a fire is reported/fire alarm is rung the office staff will call the Fire service

When the Fire Bell rings;

  • Stop what you are doing and leave the building through the nearest Fire Exit.
  • DO NOT stop to collect any belongings.
  • Walk in silence to the assembly point; School yard for main school building; school field for demountables 1+2
  • Line up facing away from the building.
  • Office staff will bring out the Fire File (kept in the Main School Office on the shelf), which contains a copy of all the class lists. The Absence Records completed by staff daily will also be brought out.
  • The teacher will take the register. When the class is accounted for the teacher must raise the register/arm into the air to give a visual signal that the class has been checked.
  • Teachers on the School Field must inform the Headteacher when their class has been accounted for.
  • If a child is missing, inform the Headteacher immediately so that the Emergency Services can be informed.
  • When it the signal is given that it is safe to return to the building, walk back in, in an orderly manner.
  • Building Works Manager (or designated person) must evacuate employees to the evacuation point.
  • When all employees are accounted for raise arm to give a visual signal that everyone has been checked.

Disabled Access and Egress

The school is mainly on one level, although there are three demountable classrooms with steps, and one short set of steps between the Hall and Lower School area.

In the event of a Fire, any disabled pupils/visitors will be able to use the Fire Exits as labelled on the plan, or the ramped exit at the rear of the Hall, as they exit straight onto the playground.
