Position Title: Graduate Research Assistant

Reports to: Dr. Christopher Edginton

Terms of Employment:

  • For the fall semester: 20 (or 10 if half award) hours per week, beginning August 20, 2018 and ending December 14, 2018. Does not include the week of Thanksgiving Break.
  • For the spring semester: 20 (or 10 if half award)hours per week, beginning January 14, 2019 and ending May 10, 2019. Does not include the week of Spring Break.

Compensation:

  • Full assistantship salary is $7,758per semester. Half assistantships may be awarded.
  • Graduate Assistants may qualify for in-state tuition and fees.
  • Graduate Assistants receive University holidays and do not work during Thanksgiving Break, Spring Break, or the interims between semesters.

Position Description:

  1. Assist in supporting the work of the Institute for Youth Leaders including planning and implementation of Youth Academy Cafés. This involves organizing a research event, assisting in the scheduling of planning meeting, assisting and assigning responsibilities, recruiting research subjects and implementing the event.
  1. Assist in preparing IRB approvals and facilitating IRB training for participating faculty and staff. Primary responsibility is to ensure that all participants in research activities of the Institute for Youth Leaders are qualified to engage in human subject research driven projects.
  1. Assist in developing new research projects including ongoing review in order to extract theory and research ideas from the scholarly literature.
  1. Engage in data coding, preparation of spreadsheet and data analysis.
  1. Assist in the preparation of manuscript writing and editing as well as the drafting of grant applications.
  1. Engage in clerical activities as assigned including occasional management of the front desk and reception area.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a full-time, degree-seeking student in a UNI graduate program
  • Must be enrolled in 9 graduate level hours
  • Maintain a Plan GPA of at least 3.00. First semester graduate students must have an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.00.
  • M.A. degree in Health; Leisure, Youth and Human Services or related field preferred
  • Prefer past experience in research projects, excellent writing and communication skills, computer skills with excel and SPSSpc.
