Unit Council Meeting

May 21, 2014

Attendance: Bonnie Blake, Mack Brandon, Rachel Budin, Peter Campbell, Regina Clark, Meredith Davis, Lisa Lutter, Ben Neill, David Oh, Judith Peck, Steven Perry, Neel Scott, Ruma Sen, Beba Shamash, Jackie Skrzynski, Maria Vail, Jay Wholley.

Dean Perry opened the meeting at 2:40 pm

Dean’s Announcements:

-  Dean Perry began the meeting stating that it is the professional responsibility of all faculty to participate in all formal student events such as Convocation, Academic Achievements, Arching, and Commencement.

-  Dean Perry stated that SCA has the highest deposit yield for the Fall 2014 semester;

31% compared to the college average of 28% and then he reported the enrollment for all majors in CA.

-  Dean Perry discussed the need to increase lab fees in order to generate revenue for equipment; lab fees have not been increased since they were first implemented.

-  Dean Perry is in the process of initiating an all college concert band; he was approached by students who presented a petition for a concert band. He is talking to the music faculty and searching for a director.

-  Dean Perry announced that there will be two summer high school programs offered: Game Design and Electronic Music Production. This will be a two week program for high school students.

-  Dean Perry discussed the new Degree Completion Program in Professional Communication which has generated a lot of interest.

Committee Reports:

-  Jackie Skrzynski spoke on behalf of the Connect Faculty Advisory Committee

regarding the new Connect System; faculty expressed the pros and cons of this new tool.

-  AFT- The final meeting of the year will be held today at 5pm in the Alumni Lounge.

-  DAC- New co-chair, 1 candidate, name not announced yet.
