MINUTES

The meeting started at 11:30am

Dr. Craft:

·  Introduction and welcomed all SHAC Members and visitors.

Darie McCleaves:

·  Welcomed representatives of the SHAC Committee and asked everyone to introduce themselves.

·  Introduced Stephanie Holder as Director’s Secretary.

·  Goal for SHAC Members is to bring in 16 new parents.

Steve Murphy:

·  Committee approved Darie McCleaves as Community Member-Co-chair. Will need to go to the Board for approval.

·  Minutes from previous meeting were reviewed and approved by the committee.

·  Campuses have a total of 9 Free Days this year which include the 3 Party Days during the school year for elementary campuses. Students may not be given candy items or other restricted food and beverages during the school day.

·  Smart Snacks Policy; Campuses could be penalized if TDA inspects and finds the campus not giving non smart snacks.

·  Lauren’s Law: A parent/legal guardian or grandparent may bring in any food product (cakes/cupcakes) for the classroom on his or her child’s birthday. The principal shall have discretion on when to allow the consumption of the food products (Principals prerogative but in most cases 15 to 30 minutes before end of day).

·  Meal prices increased for 2014-2015. Breakfast will be $1.50 for students and $2.50 for adults. Lunch will be $2.25 for elementary students, $2.50 for secondary students and $3.50 for adults. Milk will be $.75. Meal prices went up $.25 in each one of the areas.

·  Review District Wellness Policy & Board Meeting Updates; CAAG Meeting 10-13-14, Board Workshop Meeting 11-25-14 and

12-9-14 Board Meeting to approve Coordinated School Health Program, Community Member-Co-chair, Sex Ed Program and Members of SHAC.

·  Universal Breakfast/SB376: Schools participating this school year: Nolan and Gateway Middle/High, East Ward, Harker Heights, Peebles, Sugar Loaf, West Ward, Bellaire, Hay Branch and Clear Creek Elem.

·  Community Eligibility Program: USDA allows schools with high percentages of low-income children the option to offer free breakfast & lunch school meals to all children in those schools. East Ward, West Ward and Willow Springs are receiving free breakfast and lunch.

Trish Brown:

·  Healthy & Wise Newsletter is no longer available. SPARK Program is currently a possible replacement along with The Great Body Shop and CATCH.

·  SPARK: Working with campuses to review what items are in need on SPARK list.

·  Fitnessgram: Remain the same. Will be able to input results to the state online.

·  Worth the Wait: All 19 teachers are trained and curriculum is currently being taught in middle schools

·  Rock Climb: Reserved Portable Adrenaline for the Family Fitness & Wellness Fair for 4-25-15.

·  Coordinated School Health Program: Currently there are 3 programs approved by the state; CATCH, SPARK & The Great Body Shop. All research based and approved. Programs can also be modified. We have one quote to date from SPARK, $29,930.16 for the SPARK Curriculum. Multiple set of books per campus. Committee approved and will need to go to the board for approval.

JJ Johnson:

·  HEB Healthy Campus Grant; Set up idea of Fundraiser for Healthy Schools. Growing Healthy Schools Fundraiser is online. Website www.growinghealthyschools.org. Session ends 11-21-14. Administration will get with Principals regarding Fundraising policies. Committee approved Fundraiser.

Minerva Trujillo:

·  Family Fitness & Wellness Fair: Set for April 25, 2015. Purchased 70 tables that are blue, 100 chairs & 40’x20’ Tent.

New Business:

·  No new items to discuss

Other Business/Discussion:

·  Next SHAC meetings scheduled for December 10, 2014, February 11, 2015, and May 13, 2015.
