[Insert quote from School District Administrator or other school district spokesperson about benefits of participating in Healthy HotSpot, or benefits of enhanced P.E.]
Enhanced P.E. entails changing policies, practices and curricula so that our students spend more time moving during each class. Increased physical activity levels during class time reduce our students’ risk for chronic diseases, and supports positive academic performance and classroom behavior. Healthy HotSpot partners that include the Alliance for a Healthier Generation (AHG), CBS Community Partnerships and CBS EcoMedia, Illinois Public Health Institute (IPHI), the regional Intermediate Service Centers are working together to provide our schools with resources and tools to improve the quality of our P.E. program.
Critical to the success of the Healthy HotSpot initiative are physical educator training sessions led by IPHI that have taught our P.E. teachers strategies for modifying traditional P.E. games to boost activity levels; tweak classroom procedures to maximize movement time; and help our students develop lifelong skills for fitness.
We are grateful that through our involvement in this initiative our schools have also received P.E. equipment kits [insert, if applicable, and have become 2016 recipients of the National Let’s Move! Active Schools Award]. With newly equipped schools and teachers [insert, if applicable, and national recognition for our efforts], the 2016-2017 school year has shaped up well for our students thanks to the Healthy HotSpot Initiative.
