The intent of the Greater Pensacola USBC Association (GPUSBCA) Scholarship Program is to give deserving youth bowlers the incentive to attend their youth league sessions during their years of eligibility. It also encourages them to strive for high academic achievement. This scholarship program will attempt to identify and reward the best and brightest bowlers, based on their achievement on the lanes, their leadership skills, their academic record, as well as their personal conduct and community service.

SCHOLARSHIP POLICY

1) The number of scholarships to be given each year will be two (2), one (1) boy and one (1) girl. If there are fewer applications received than scholarships given, then the money will remain in the scholarship fund.

2) As long as applicant meets the requirements of the GPUSBCA Scholarship Program, they may submit a new application to be considered for additional scholarships, up to a maximum of two (2) scholarship awards.

3) Scholarship recipients will be provided a copy of the scholarship policy for presentation at time of enrollment.

4) Recipients must apply for their scholarship money within six (6) years of when they graduate from high school. If the money is not applied for in that time frame, the funds will be forfeited and will go back into the GPUSBCA Scholarship Fund account. For those recipients already enrolled in an approved post high school institution, the funds must be applied for and used while enrolled in the approved institution.

ELIGIBILITY

The following qualifications must be met in order for an applicant to be considered for a scholarship.

1) The applicant must be a sanctioned member in good standing with GPUSBCA in the year the application is submitted.The applicant must have bowled in a sanctioned Youth League for three years,of which two years must have been in a GPUSBCA Youth League.

2) The applicant must be a graduating senior in a Santa Rosa or EscambiaCountyHigh School, or must be enrolled in an approved post high school institution.

3) Must have an unimpaired amateur standing in all athletics.

4) High School students must have a GPA of 3.0,College students a GPA of 2.0or higher, to be considered.

SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE

The Scholarship Committee will be appointed each year by the GPUSBCA President and will be responsible for the following:

1) Asking Youth League coaches to identify eligible bowlers and making available to those bowlers the application forms and eligibility requirements.

2) Collecting, evaluating, and reporting selection recommendations to the GPUSBCA Board.

3) Notifying recipients of their selection and the guidelines they must use regarding the scholarships.

PROCEDURES TO APPLY

Applications for scholarship must be completed in its entirety and submitted to the GPUSBCA President (Denise Myers) no later than 31 May. The applications will be compiled and given to the Scholarship Committee of the GPUSBCA no later than 15 June. Incomplete applications will not be considered. The following documents must be included in the application:

1) Application for Scholarship (High School Senior or PostHigh School Student)

2) Coach’s Evaluation and Data Sheet

3) School Official’s Evaluation and Data Sheet

4) Recommendation Form
