Save the Date and support Access to Justice across Scotland!
We are really excited about the Glasgow Legal Walk coming up thisautumnon Monday 9October. The legal community of Glasgow will come together and raise funds to support access to advice for all and we are proud to have The Law Society of Scotland, the Scottish Young Lawyers Association, the Royal Faculty of Procurators in Glasgowsupport ourwalks.
The Access to Justice Foundation was established to support the provision of free legal advice across the UK in 2008 and the series of annual Legal Walks are an important part of our fundraising activities. The organisations we support make a huge difference in the lives of many people. There is an increased demand for many working families to gain free access to specialist legal advice and it is more important than ever that the poorest and most vulnerable people in our community have access to such support.
In an example case study, Ms X required legal advice regarding a potential employer and data protection concerns prior to starting with a new employer. A local advice charity based in Edinburgh were able to provide advice on how to write a letter of complaint and what would entail throughout this complaint procedure. They also provided advice on what would happen if the client was to raise a court action against this company. They were able to proceed with the client’s case and write to the potential employer on their behalf. This letter explained the client’s situation, the legal concern and the remedy sought. The sending of this letter was successful as the client was able to receive a response, which they were not able to do prior to meeting with the advice charity, and received the remedy they requested.
Registration on the day for both events opens at 5pm and the walk sets off at 5:30pm. The events round off with our lead walkers saying a few words and everyone can rest their feet and have a drink after completing the route at Royal Faculty Hall.
