BENEDETTO GUITARS represent what has become the holy grail of jazz guitars around the world. Robert Benedetto began handcrafting archtop guitars in 1968 in a small workshop across the river from New York City. By the late 1970's the premier jazz guitarists were beginning to line up to replace their vintage Gibsons, D'Angelicos and Epiphones with these traditionally carved modern masterpieces. Today, three generations of iconic players like Bucky Pizzarelli, Pat Martino, Kenny Burrell, Martin Taylor, Andy Summers, Frank Vignola, Howard Alden and countless more have recorded on every major festival and club stage around the world with their Benedetto Guitar. A Benedetto even resides in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History, and most modern luthiers cite Bob Benedetto as the most influential living jazz guitar maker.
Benedetto moved his workshop to Savannah, GA in 2006, where he continues to make handcrafted jazz guitars at his original workbench. Additionally, he has hired, trained and personally supervises a staff of the most talented guitar builders anywhere in the world to construct Benedetto guitars using more affordable and sustainable laminated construction techniques. Every single instrument performs as the carved guitars, but with concessions to acoustic projection that make the modern Professional Series guitars more affordable, feedback resistant, and versatile on the bandstand. All guitars (priced from $2,950.00 to $50,000.00) are handcrafted in Savannah, personally inspected and signed by Benedetto himself, and shipped direct to the customer.
The guitars featured on this site represent the entire range of the Benedetto Project, both the Carved Flagship Series (from Benedetto's personal workbench) to the Laminated Professional Series (built in the rooms adjacent to his workbench). Each instrument is unique and includes a limited lifetime warranty to the original purchaser. A Benedetto is truly “The Signature of Jazz Guitar.”
