Outfit your kayak

Presented by: Damiano Visocnik

Most kayaks need some outfitting after you purchased them.

This presentation will look at the most basic safety equipment to the more elaborate modifications needed for longer trips (electric bilge pumps, sails, additional paddle holders, underdeck storage etc.)

On longer trips (from a weekend outing to a few weeks) a well outfitted kayak is much safer and more comfortable.

While most DIY modifications require some basic handyman skills, knowledge of options available will expose you to the commercially available alternatives.

Preparing the body for paddling

Presented by: Terry Hinzel

Many of us have equipment checklists, provisions checklists and other lists either mental or written that make sure we don't leave anything important behind on our trip, but how often do we consider and prepare the " engine room" of our kayak ……..our body?

"Preparing the Body for Paddling" will help you understand the physical and nutritional requirements of short and long haul paddling, and how you can successfully prepare your body to adapt to the wonderful pastime of paddling kayaks and canoes.

You will learn:

What stretches and exercises can prepare the body for the paddle stroke.

How to enjoy paddling injury free.

What foods to eat prior and during paddling to sustain energy.

What supplements and nutritional "tricks" may be useful in longer haul paddling efforts.

"Preparing Your Body for Paddling" will be presented by Terry Hitzke who has been a keen paddler of most modalities (whitewater, surf and sea kayaking) for over 30 years. Terry also has professional qualifications in Acupuncture, Sports Injuries Management, Nutrition and Holistic Health. He has been in full-time practice for over 24 years and has taught, lectured had consulted widely to different groups on the benefits of attaining balance in life and sport. He is currently passionate about kayak fishing and spends as many "Weather Windows" as he can on the water with like-minded souls.

Photography

Presented by: Damiano Visocnik

The focus of this presentation is on the aesthetics of photography more than the technical aspects of it.

From basic composition principles to the study on angles and lighting the goal will be to deliver a clear insight of what makes an appealing image.

Why are some images more popular than others, why some look more dramatic or why others are soothing?

Psychology behind the image will be the main subject enabling the participant to learn ways to create better photographs.
