SATHYA SAI HEALTHCARE CAMP KUFSTEIN

GUIDELINE

SSIO / DRC Zone 7

Version 1, 22. December 2015

Om Sai Ram !

“There is nothing more elevating than service to society. Selfless service is the salt of life. Only through service we can experience bliss”.

Sathya Sai Baba

Kufstein (state of Tirol/Austria) is a refugee transit centre localized at the border between Austria and Germany. Refugees are transported from other borders and stay in Kufstein for about half a day. Then they either will be transported to Germany or ask for Asylum in Austria and change location as well.

The refugees travelled through many countries not being welcome on their way. During their short stay in Camp Kufstein, until their journey continues and until vacancies are filled with employees, we would like to improve the situation of the refugees and let them feel love.

Police, Security, Militarysecurethe camp andorganizetheflow. The Kufstein Camp is coordinated by Austrian Red Cross and Austrian Volunteer Organisation called „Team Österreich“. SSIO / DRC is cooperating with Austrian Red Cross. Basic activities are guided by „Team Österreich – Supervisor“, other activities (see below) can be done by us self-dependent and with a good feeling of what is adequate and which does not disturb work of Red Cross basic work.

Red Cross is focused on basics (food, clothes, fundamental needs), but they do not take care of refugee mental / emotional needs. And this is was we really can give with our seva.

Service Activities in Camp

Basic activities (supervised by Team Austria)

sorting of clothes and distribution

distribution of food in canteen

cleaning of canteene and food preparation

reload of service packages and used blankets

translation (english / german / farsi / arabic)

Social / extra activities

  • playing with children – child care
  • discretely playing music, singing
  • distribution of sweeties, fruits and water bottles
  • give love with sharing time with adult refugees

For all materials: painting material, very little toys and soft toys or handicraft work as well, instruments (best is guitar, easily movable instruments with no electricity) sweeties, fruits and water bottles we have to bring on our own.

Fruits, sweeties and water can be bought in neighboured supermarkets.

A very good idea is to do packaging of „little sweetie bags“ in Sai groups and centres and transport this to Kufstein. This is a seva we can share with many other devotees, who do not have chance to come to Kufstein.

Other donations

Donation of clothes is organized by „Kleiderladen Kufstein“. Donations has to be delivered to following adress: KLEIDERLADEN KUFSTEIN Feldgasse 10, 6330 Kufstein. Next these clothes will be distributed to refugee centre. Please do not bring clothes directly to Kufstein refugee camp directly.

Medical Activities

Currently refugees are staying only half a day in Kufstein during transit. Hence medical service is limited by this temporally restrictions.

At this moment Common practitioners are needed. CP's who are registered in Austrian chamber can give seva and practice on their own. Other CP's can practice as well. They are formally „ambulance man“ who work under guidance of Austrian physicians.

Nurses are asked for transport to hospital. Actually we have seen no need for transport activities.

We have experienced, that here and there children are a bit weak, dehydrated or have other things. We have seen that some parents cannot take care of children adequately after their long and exhausting travel. If nurses are there, it would be fine if they take care of kids in case of need. We have identified i.e. thick kids during distribution of clothes.

Psychotherapist or Trauma therapist would give seva within social / extra activities.

Other therapeutic seva (i.e. massage) can be done after consulting local DRC coordinator.
