Sara Orton Glickman Collaborative Project-Based Learning Grant Application

The Sara Orton Glickman Collaborative Project-Based Learning Grant provides $1,000 annually to fund teachers working together to bring project-based and inquiry-centered learning to their students on a weekly basis for a semester or an entire school year. Use this application form to submit for this grant. Applications that are not selected here will be automatically considered for funding in the general classroom grant category.

Criteria: The review committee awards this grant each year to the proposal that best meets the stated guidelines. This grant is awarded to two or more teachers, an entire grade level, department, or school committed to meaningful engagement of students in using their academic learning to better the larger community. The committee will give priority to

A)Regular classroom teachers using project-based and inquiry-centered learning in core academic subjects, including the arts.

B)Classrooms with a significant percentage of students from low-income families.

C)Projects that result in students applying their academic learning to real situations that provide value to a larger community beyond their own classroom.

The Foundation funds projects that directly enhance student learning and that are innovative, creative and/or extend the scope of typical school activities. We do not fund basic school supplies, professional development for teachers, salaries, or routine purchases that would typically be made by the school or school district. Foundation grants should not be seen as replacements for district funding, even in difficult economic times. The impact of the project on students should be commensurate with the requested budget.

Qualifications: Applicants must be employed by the Clarke County School District as full-time certified personnel (classroom teachers, fine arts teachers, media specialists, counselors, etc.) at the time the grant is awarded. If an applicant has previously received a classroom grant, the final report must be on file with the Foundation for Excellence; otherwise, the current application is ineligible for review.

Application Process:Print and submit an original plus 8 copies (9 total) of the entire application packet, which consists of a) the cover page including the administrator endorsement, and b) the project narrative (up to 5 pages). Hard copies should be submitted to the CCSD Office of Public Relations by 4:30 pm on the first Thursday in June. Late applications will not be accepted; incomplete applications will not be reviewed. Applications will not be returned. Each application is reviewed by a panel of judges external to the district and the Foundation. Notification of awards will be made at the start of the school year, and funds must be expended by June 30 of that school year.
