Choir Room Guidelines

  1. RESPECT OTHERS: Students, Teachers, Substitute Teachers, Administrators, Parents, Guests, etc.
  2. Arrive on time (See SHS tardy policy)
  3. Participate in all activities
  4. No gum or food in the Choir Room. Water is okay.

Discipline Policy

  1. First offense: Counsel student (warning)
  2. Second offense: Counsel student, move seat if necessary, and parent contact
  3. Third offense: Detention or referral and parent contact again.
  4. Fourth offense: Administrator, Counselor, & Parent conference

Expected Supplies and Materials

  1. Pencils
  2. Folder or ½ inch Binder (to keep music, warm-ups, theory notes, etc.)

Graded Assignments

  1. Performances and Outside Rehearsals Performances and Outside Rehearsals are mandatory! If a performance is missed, a signed note or phone call from the student’s guardian will be expected, and:
  2. The student will be able to do a “make-up performance” assignment. This will result in a 75% of the actual performance or rehearsal grade.
  3. Music Assessments (Theory and Singing) / Class Work These assessments will be given several times each quarter, assessing on music theory, music vocabulary, and music history. These concepts will be taught and discussed throughout the year.

*The student must take responsibility for missed assignments and quizzes. All assignments and quizzes for that particular quarter can be made up before the quarter ends. Incompletion of the assignment or quiz will result in 0 points.

70% Summative Assessments (Benchmarks, Performances, & Outside Rehearsals) 4.5 - 5 = A

30% Formative Assessments (Music Quizzes, Class Work) 4.0 – 4.49 = B

3.5 – 3.9= C

3.0 – 3.49 = D

2.9 and Below = F

Concert Attire

An important part of any musical organization is its appearance to the audience. Uniformity in dress is appealing to the observer and, more importantly, does not distract from the performance.

Students are expected to dress according to the following:

Treble Choir

*ALL SOLID BLACK… This could mean any of the following:

*Black pants or skirt that falls at the knee or a long black dress

*Long sleeve or ¾ sleeve black top (blouse, button-up dress shirt, tank top with cardigan, etc.)

*Black nylon stocking

*Black, closed-toe, closed-heel dress shoes

Varsity Choir

Women: *ALL SOLID BLACK… This could mean any of the following:

*Black pants or skirt that falls at the knee or a long black dress

*Long sleeve or ¾ sleeve black top (blouse, button-up dress shirt, tank top with cardigan, etc.)

*Black nylon stocking

*Black, closed-toe, closed-heel dress shoes

Men: *Solid Black slacks or pants

*Long sleeve white dress shirt

*Neck tie (color to be determined)

*Black dress socks

*Black dress shoes

Advanced Women’s Ensemble

*Choir dress that is suggested to be purchased ($60) or loaned from the Choral Department

*Black, closed-toe, closed-heel dress shoes

*Black nylon stocking

Vocal Ensemble

Women: *Choir dress that is suggested to be purchased ($95) or loaned from the Choral Department.

*Black, closed-toe, closed-heel dress shoes

*Black nylon stocking

Men: *Wing-tipped tux shirt that is suggested to be purchased ($18) or loaned from the Choral Department.

*Tux jacket, tux pants, and bow-tie will be loaned from the Choral Department.

*Black dress shoes

*Black dress socks

*All loaned items (dresses, tuxedos, dress shirts, bow ties, cummerbunds, choir robes, etc.) must be dry-cleaned before returning back to the Choral Department before the end of the school year. If items are not returned, the student’s course grade will be lowered by two letter grades and they will have a hold on their student fees. Seniors will also have a hold on their student fees AND they will NOT be able to graduate.
