Women’s Softball

·  SCC Drops Game to Cypress: The SCC women’s softball team suffered a tough Orange Empire Conference (OEC) loss to visiting Cypress College 11-1 on Monday, Apr. 16 at Hart Park. Freshman catcher Charte Land went 2-for-3 and freshman Ashley LaCombe added a hit and scored a run to lead the Hawks. LaCombe also made the defensive play of the game in the top of the second inning as she threw out a Cypress runner at the plate from center field to end the inning.

·  Hawks Stung by Hornets: The Hawks lost an OEC road game to Fullerton College 6-2 on Wednesday, Apr. 18. Freshman Nicole Ava finished with two hits and an RBI, while freshman Chanel Hogue went 1-for-4 with an RBI to lead the Hawks (12-22-1, 3-15 OEC). Ashley LaCombe chipped in with two hits for SCC.

Men’s Golf

·  SCC Drops Heartbreaker to Palomar: The SCC men’s golf team has lost some tight matches this season, but none closer than Wednesday’s (4/18) heartbreaker against Palomar College at the par-72 Twin Oaks Golf Course in San Marcos. After adding up the scorecards from each team’s top five players the score was tied at 377-377, sending the match into a tie-breaker. The tie-breaker is determined by the score of the sixth golfer from each squad. After the sixth player from each team finished with an 81, the match was sent into a second tie-breaker. In this case, the scores from the top five players from each team on the back nine are used to break the tie. Palomar shot a 189 on the back nine compared to 191 for SCC, breaking the tie and giving the Comets the card-off victory. The Hawks (10-5 OEC) have lost four of five matches this season by two shots or less.

·  Gibson Finishes with 9-Birdes: Despite windy conditions, sophomore Steve Gibson finished with a school-record nine birdies on his way to shooting a 4-under-par round of 68 to lead the Hawks. Other scores for SCC included sophomore Eric Brambila with a solid even-par round of 72, freshmen Josh Perez and Austin Glenn each with a 78, while sophomore Kyle Ortiz and freshman Jordan Andrews each carded an 81.

·  Next Up: SCC will compete in the OEC Finals on Monday, Apr. 30 at the Los Serranos Golf Club in Chino Hills.

Men’s/Women’s Track & Field

·  Hawks Ready for OEC Championships: The SCC men’s and women’s track and field teams will compete in the OEC Championships on April 27-28 at Santa Ana College. Fullerton College is hosting the two-day event.
