1. How do the teachers sustain on this salary? Do they take up other part-time jobs to sustain?

Sankalp: Most teachers are secondary income earners in their families and the salary they earn is more in the nature of "extra spending money". The salary they earn must be seen in context of the hours of work (4.5 hrs a day)

  1. How many teachers does Sankalp currently have?

Sankalp: Sankalp currently employs 19 teaching staff

  1. How is Sankalp currently being supported? Please provide a list of donors & amounts funded by them for the running of the schoolyear 2012-2013.

Sankalp: 2012-13:Total income from donors: Rs 19.20 lacs

Interest Income: Rs 17.14 lacs

We will provide the break up of donors shortly as we are awaiting the final audited figures from the auditor

  1. Regarding requested Funding amount - Rs 5 Lacs

As per our records following are the people , amounts donated & the date they made the donation to Asha online: Ms. Kharbanda - $2000 (Dec 18th 2012) & Mr. Pradeep Mehra - $1750 (Jun 22nd 2013).

This totals to $ 3,750 or Rs 2,28,750 (@ $1=Rs 61). Hence I am not sure why the proposal was written for Rs. 5 Lacs. Please explain.

Sankalp: There is a matching grant of $2000 that has been received against Ms Kharbanda’s donation. We are forwarding the details in a separate email.

We were also under the impression that there was a matching grant against the other donation but that does not seem to have happened.

Therefore the amount stands at $4000 (Rs 2.40 lacs approx) and $1760 (Rs 1.06 lacs approx).

Asha Dallas (11/22/2013): We are currently follwing up on this issue of matching donation to confirm with Sankalp if the matching amount of $2000 from VMware has been received by the Asha Central Treasury team.

  1. Uniforms/Sweaters (1000 nos @ Rs 200/unit) - Rs. 2 Lacs

Isn't the total strength of the school 700 students (as per information provided by Sankalp) so, wouldn't you need to purchase only 700 sweaters/uniforms?

Are some students getting sweaters & some getting uniforms?

Sankalp: This money will be used for a combination of sweaters and uniforms. This budget is an approximation.

Sweaters:Sweaters are normally sourced only after November as stocks are available only then.We normally order 800 pieces of sweaters per annum and the costs varies from Rs 200 to Rs 300 per piece.

Uniforms:This is the first year that we are placing an order for uniforms for the children (till date the children have been buying their own uniforms). We are planning to order about 1000 piecesthis year. Some of the students have been given one set of uniforms by the Government - these children will get 1 set from Sankalp. The children who have not received uniforms from the Government will be given two sets.
