COURSE DESCRIPTION

Computer 2 is an introductory computer course focusing on Internet tools and web design. Students will create a web page using HTML along with other web page editors available at SRVHS.

ü  To be able to demonstrate an understanding of computers and how they are used as a tool in education and business environments.

ü  To demonstrate correct web design techniques.

ü  To research and present Internet safety tips and explain the importance of those tips.

ü  To have a basic understanding of several software programs including Microsoft Office—Excel and Google tools.

ü  To create a web page using basic HTML.

CREDITS/REQUIREMENTS

This course is one semester with five credits awarded upon completion of all course requirements. The courses requires that you are here and that you complete the program, complete and turn in all classwork, homework (if given), and tests.

GRADE

Points will be given for classwork assignments, homework, behavior/attitude and tests.

100-90% = A/A- 89-80% = B+/B- 79-70% = C+/C- 69-60% = D+/D-

CLASS BEHAVIOR/ATTITUDE/POSITIVE WORK ETHICS

Each student is expected to demonstrate positive work ethics. This means demonstrating the ability to work in teams, getting along with and respecting your peers, your teacher and yourself. Every student has the right to feel safe and valued at school. Bullying is harassment and will not be tolerated.

Participation will be graded on getting to class on time, (tardies will result in a loss of points). If you cut class, you will lose the equivalent of two class periods participation points. No cell phones/electronic devices are allowed in class—they will automatically be confiscated and given to an administrator. Students will pick it up from the administrator. If you need to leave class for any reason, ask permission to do so and take a hall pass with you.

ATTENDANCE/PARTICIPATION

Regular daily attendance is crucial.

Policies will be followed as outlined in the Student/Parent Handbook. District policy dictates that 3 illegally missed periods may result in Saturday School and/or no credit for that course. If you are absent you are responsible for making up missed work on your own time. STUDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE for getting the assignments and turning them in. If you need to make up work you may make arrangements to come in during lunch or after school.

ACADEMIC CODE OF CONDUCT

Protect your work and your reputation.

Do NOT allow another student to copy any portion of your class work, projects, quizzes, evaluations, etc., from your source files on disk or hard drive. Do not e-mail others documents that you have completed for class. REPRODUCING someone else’s work and turning it in for credit will be an automatic “F” on that assignment for all students involved; the administration and parents will be notified and if it happens again it will result in automatic dismissal from the class.

v CLASSROOM EQUIPMENT
You will be assigned to sit at the same computer work station every day. You are responsible for that computer each day. If, when you arrive, you notice something has been changed or broken, it is your responsibility to let me know as soon as you notice it. This way I can hold the student that was there before you, responsible for the cost of the repair. If, before you leave class, something goes wrong, you need to let me know so that it can be fixed before the next class comes in.
