Dear

You are eligible to be considered for reemployment with the University of California as a retiree in the [Working Title; Classification; Grade] position, I welcome you to the [Department] and the University of California, Riverside.

Most often, rehired retirees work 43% time or less, for 12 months or less. Your [Percent Time] appointment will begin on [Date] and will end on [Date]. Your monthly salary will be [$]___.

Because UCRP must comply with IRS pension distribution rules, generally UC retirees are allowed to return to work only under certain limited circumstances. To comply with IRS rules, you cannot discuss reemployment until after you have received your first UCRP monthly retirement payment, or 30 days after you have ended UC employment – whichever is later – if you have not reached normal retirement age. (The normal retirement age is 65 if you joined UCRP on or after July 1, 2013. If you joined before that date, it’s 60; if you’re a Safety member, it’s 50.)

To be hired after you have retired, UC Policy states that:

·  The reemployment must be in response to a university need, for instance:

o  You have skills and knowledge that the hiring department can’t otherwise obtain with equal cost-effectiveness

o  The hiring department anticipates a prolonged process for hiring a replacement or

o  The hiring department anticipates that you will help the replacement acquire the skills and knowledge needed for the job

·  You need to have had a break in service of at least 30 days – preferably 90 days – before you can be reemployed.

·  Your rehire appointment must be limited to the equivalent of no more than 43 percent time during a 12-month period.

·  Your employment cannot exceed a total of 12 consecutive months. If your department still needs you after 12 months, it must apply again for approval for additional time.

If your position prior retirement was in senior management or as a staff employee and you chose the UCRP lump sum cashout - an option available primarily to those who joined UCRP before July 1, 2013 – you cannot be hired into a career (UCRP-eligible) position.

The terms and conditions of your reemployment are covered by Regents’ Policy 7706 – Reemployment of UC Retired Employees into SMG & Staff Positions, Implementation Procedures, Frequently Asked Questions and the Returning to UC Employment After Retirement Brochure and Personnel Policies for Staff Members. Additional information is available on the Human Resources (HR) website at www.hr.ucr.edu or (https://hr.ucr.edu/policies/policiesandcontracts/reemploymentretirees.html).

The offer of this position is conditional upon your being able to provide, in accordance with federal law, evidence of authorization to work in the United States, and the successful completion of a background check through the university's background check agency prior to your start date as well as a fingerprint check through the State of California Department of Justice (DOJ)/Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

If you are in agreement with the terms and conditions of this offer, please sign and return the enclosed copy of this letter by [Insert date that is 2-3 business days out from date sent to candidate]. Feel free to contact [name/phone/email address] to discuss any questions you may have regarding employment at UCR.

Sincerely,

I understand and accept the above conditions, and I accept this offer:
