1. Work Group Meetings /

3. Date, Time of THM /
  • Wednesday night traditionally church night – could it work if pastors and congregations were approached and invited to be part of it?
  • DECISION:
  • Wednesday, March 24, 2010 7:00-8:00 p.m.
  • Alternative date: March 31, 2010 7:00-8:00 p.m.
/ Reach out to a wide audience, including all Mulvane churches.
4. Location of THM /
  • MulvaneHigh School Auditorium – 750 capacity
/ TO DO: Assess and coordinate audio-visual needs and logistical set-up.
5. Content of THM /
  • Refreshments – coffee, tea, pop, water, cookies/dessert items
  • NHM students in charge of refreshments
  • Multiple format effective
  • Graphic video to start – K-Kat develop an interview video highlighting the underage drinking prevalence from MulvaneHigh School students’ perspective. Students interviewed can speak anonymously if preferred.
  • Local information needed – statistics
  • Panel discussion – panelists ideas- Derby SRO or DRE, Police Chief Williams, Principal Ensley, Academy student, youth pastor, parent that has been affected by substance abuse, Greg Williams – 93.9 DJ, Deputy DA Paschal
  • How many panelists? At least 5, but to be effective no more than 7?
  • Will having a church representative be offensive to anyone? Robert also mentioned that the representative can be quite ‘neutral.’
  • Positive things that Mulvane kids are doing to end meeting – presenting the Red Ribbon recognition to the Middle School RAD group again, introducing video makers?
  • Attendees should leave with Task Force information and a call to get involved. (Handout with next meeting dates, contact information and introduction of group leaders?)
  • DECISION: Approximately 30 min? Panel Discussion with Q & A to follow will be one of the components. Potential panelists will be contacted before next meeting 02/10 and based on availability, final panelist decisions will made then.
/ -Brad and Diane will use the flyer/statement to approach Wal-Mart, Target, Dillon’s
-Cathi will organize NHM students to commit to serving and cleaning up refreshments
-Cathi willapproach the K-Kat student group and if they are interested in making anapproximately 15 min video, designate an advisor and timeline for them.
-Cathi will contact Mulvane and Derby PD
-Cathi will talk to Academy student to determine appropriateness and interest

-Cathi will talk to parent reps to determine interest
-Robert will organize youth minister
-Gary will contact Greg Williams
Lisa – contact Bonnie Kennedy to inform her of Town Hall Meeting date so she can organize the RAD students/parents to attend.
TO DO: Pull local, current statistics from CTC data and local police. Put statistics in a readable format (handout or PP)
TO DO: Choose a moderator for panel and decide introductory discussion questions.
TO DO: Make preliminary agenda/timeline for THM.
TO DO: Formal invitations to the panelists to be made along with an information packet. (see Town Hall resources)
6. Marketing Ideas /
  • Gary took it to the Chamber of Commerce and they are willing to help advertise
  • Gary took it to his bank and they are willing to make a small donation
  • Contacting Lions’ Club, Optimist Club, Seniors’ Center, RecCenter, churches
  • Once flyer is made by MHS students, distributed to the following: (ACTION column) However, feel free to start talking it up!
Flyer should include:
-date, time, location
-A couple of sentences like: All are welcome to attend the Town Hall Meeting. A student video and panel discussion will increase your awareness on how underage drinking affects Mulvane. The meeting will give you the opportunity to voice your concerns and get involved in preventing Mulvane youth from using alcohol and other drugs.
-Refreshments will be served.
-eye catching graphics
