OakHillsAcceptableUsePolicy
WeintheOakHillsLocalSchoolDistrictarepleasedtobeabletoofferourstudents,staffandguestsaccesstocomputertechnology,includingaccesstotheInternet,certainonlineservices,andtheOakHillsinformationtechnologynetwork.We arededicatedtoaccessandsupportofappropriatetechnologywhichunlocksourpotentialandconnectsuslocallyandglobally.Weenvisionalearningenvironmentwheretechnologyisapartofus,notapartfromus.
Webelievethatthetremendousvalueoftechnologyandtheinformationtechnologynetworkasaneducationalresourcefaroutweighsthepotentialrisks. Wewillleverageexistingandemergingtechnologyasameans
tolearnandthriveinthe21stCenturyandprepareourstudentsforsuccesstowardtheirgoalsinthecompetitiveglobal,electronicage.Wefeelthataccesstothetoolsandresourcesofaworld-widenetworkandunderstandingwhenandhowthesetoolsareappropriatelyandeffectivelyusedareimperativeineachstudent’seducation.However,ifparentsfeeltheydonotwanttheirchildtohaveInternetaccess,thenthey
willberesponsibleforinformingtheirchild’steachers,inwriting,beforetheendofthesecondweekofschool.
Theschool’sinformationtechnologyresources,includingemailandInternetaccess,areprovidedforeducationalpurposes.Ifyouhaveanydoubtaboutwhetheracontemplatedactivityisacceptable,consultwithyourimmediateteacher,supervisor,ordirectortohelpdecideifauseisappropriate.Adherencetothefollowingpolicyisnecessaryforcontinuedaccesstotheschool’stechnologicalresources:
Usersmustrespectandprotecttheprivacyofothersby:
1.Usingonlyassignedaccounts.
2.Onlyviewing,using,orcopyingpasswords,data,ornetworkstowhichtheyareauthorized.
3.Refrainingfromdistributingprivateinformationaboutothersorthemselves.
Usersmustrespectandprotecttheintegrity,availability,andsecurityofallelectronicresourcesby:
1.Observingalldistrict Internetfilters andposted network security practices.
2.Reportingsecurityrisksorviolationstoateacherornetworkadministrator.
3.Notdestroyingordamagingdata,networks,orotherresourcesthatdonotbelongtothem,withoutclearpermissionoftheowner.
4.Conserving,protecting,andsharingtheseresourceswithotherusers.
5.Notifyingastaffmemberoradministratorofcomputerornetworkmalfunctionsthroughthecreationofaservicerequest.
Usersmustrespectandprotecttheintellectualpropertyofothersby:
1.Followingcopyrightlaws(notmakingillegalcopiesofmusic,games,ormovies).
2.Citingsourceswhenusingothers’work(notplagiarizing).
Usersmustrespect and practice the principles of communityby:
1.Communicatingonlyinwaysthatarekindandrespectful.
2.Reportingthreateningordiscomfortingmaterialstoateacheroradministrator.
3.Notintentionallyaccessing,transmitting,copying,orcreatingmaterialthatviolatestheschool’scodeofconduct(suchasmessages/contentthatarepornographic,threatening,rude,discriminatory,ormeanttoharass).
4.Notintentionallyaccessing,transmitting,copying,orcreatingmaterialthatisillegal(suchasobscenity,stolenmaterials,orillegalcopiesofcopyrightedworks).
5.Notusingtheresourcestofurtherotheractsthatarecriminalorviolatetheschool’scodeofconduct.
6.Avoidingspam,chainletters,orothermassunsolicitedmailings.
7.Refrainingfrombuying,selling,advertising,orotherwiseconductingbusiness,unlessapprovedasaschoolproject.
Usersmay, ifinaccordwith thepolicy above:
1.Designandpostwebpagesandothermaterialfromschoolresources.
2.Communicateelectronicallyviatoolssuchasemail,chat,text,orvideoconferencing(studentsrequireateacher’spermission).
3.Installordownloadsoftware,ifalsoinconformitywithlawsandlicenses(studentsmustbeunderthesupervisionofateacher).
4.Usetheresourcesforanyeducationalpurpose.
ConsequencesforViolation
Violationsoftheserulesmayresultindisciplinaryaction,includingthelossofauser’sprivilegestousetheschool’sinformationtechnologyresources.FurtherdisciplinemaybeimposedinaccordancewiththeBoard’sCodeofConductuptoandincludingsuspensionorexpulsiondependingonthedegreeandseverityoftheviolation.
SupervisionandMonitoring
TheuseofDistrictownedinformationtechnologyresourcesisnotprivate.Schoolandnetworkadministratorsandtheirauthorizedemployeesmonitortheuseofinformationtechnologyresourcestohelpensurethatusesaresecureandinconformitywiththispolicy.Administratorsreservetherighttoexamine,use,and discloseanydatafoundontheschool’sinformationnetworksinordertofurtherthehealth,safety,discipline,orsecurityofanystudentorotherperson,ortoprotectproperty.Theymayalsousethisinformationindisciplinaryactions,andwillfurnishevidenceofcrimetolawenforcement.
Thedistrictreservestherighttodeterminewhichusesconstituteacceptableuseandtolimitaccesstosuchuses.Thedistrictalsoreservestherighttolimitthetimeofaccessanduse.
