The Church assists the parents by offering instruction on the meaning, importance, and responsibilities of the sacrament of Baptism. A Pre-Jordan Baptismal Program for helping parents prepare for the spiritual birth of their child is held on the fourth Sunday of the month in the Spirituality Center following the Noon Mass. The next Pre Jordan is January 27, 2013.

The Baptism of the Lord
Today, we celebrate the feast of the Baptism of Jesus. The baptism of Jesus marks the beginning of his public ministry. Jesus begins the work he was sent to earth to do. Throughout the coming year, the Gospel of Saint Luke will be used to deepen our knowledge and understanding of Jesus.
The feast of the Baptism of the Lord also marks the end of the Christmas season for the Church. The following reflection provides insight into not only what the mission of Jesus is but also what the mission of all who have been baptized is.
When the song of the angels is stilled,
When the star in the sky is gone,
When the kings and princes are home,
When the shepherds are back with their flock,
The work of Christmas begins:
To find the lost,
To heal the broken,
To feed the hungry,
To release the prisoner,
To rebuild the nations,
To bring peace among people,
To lend a hand to a friend in trouble,
To build up a child’s self-confidence,
To spend time with a lonely neighbor,
To forgive someone who has hurt you,
To make music in the heart.
The Liturgical Season of Ordinary Time
Our celebration of the Advent and Christmas season will conclude on Monday. From Tuesday until Ash Wednesday (February 13th), we are in a liturgical season that is simply referred to as Ordinary Time. We are sent as ordinary people into ordinary places with a most extraordinary gift, namely, Jesus Christ. At Christmas, we celebrated the birth and presence of Jesus among us. Now, Jesus invites us to take Him into the ordinary places of our lives so that He may grace others and us with His gifts of salvation.
Volunteers Needed
Volunteers are needed on Monday morning (January 14th) after the 8:30 AM Mass to help un-decorate the Church.
6:30 AM Daily Mass
There will NOT be a 6:30 AM Daily Mass during the month of January.
19154 5K Race
St. Anselm Parish will host the inaugural “19154 5K Race” on Saturday, February 2, 2013. There will be a Kids Fun Run at 9:00 AM followed by the 5K Race at 9:15 AM, starting and ending at St. Anselm. Registration forms and more information are available on the parish website.
If you own or work for a business that would like to become a sponsor, please send an email to or find the sponsorship form on the race website: www.stanselmparish.com/race.
All proceeds from the 19154 5K will benefit the youth & young adult ministries of St. Anselm Church.

Vincentian Message…
After Jesus was baptized, he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and a voice was heard “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” As we give to the poor, we also hear these same words.
As you help those who are suffering, know in your heart the truth of the words “you are my beloved in whom I am well pleased.”
