The 2009 CBAI Group Meetings will featureVimal Patel, senior director of Financial Markets with Sageworks, Inc., Raleigh, N.C. Patel’s presentation examines the characteristics of a successful community-bank lending operation in today’s economic environment. He does this by evaluating the ability to look at the past, present, and future accurately. Topics covered include obtaining good information from borrowers and evaluating it both objectively and subjectively, using current trends properly to determine potential problems and gems, as well as depending existing relationships with borrowers. He also discusses taking advantage of forecasting and stress-testing to preempt potential problem loans and solidifying your role with existing customers by looking at their projected futures.

After graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in mathematical sciences, Patel spent 10 years with an international non-profit, where he served as a regional director of operations.
