Safety Meeting – 10/5/2010

Present: B. Mcnamara, M. Brackin, C. Lathrop, D. Latimer, K. Schutte, D. Davis, J. Webb, J. Cook, Y. Salcedo, M. Munson, W. Blackerby, L. Murphy, L. Lake

  1. Recent Accidents – Burn – cone for directing hot water
  2. Maintenance to review other locations with similar arrangements and put in place a secured sleeve or cone or bring the pipe to the drain leaving no way for employees’ feet to come in contact with the hot water.
  3. Hilltop - Salad drain Central Production- veggie patch prep sink Court - kettles in the kitchen Den- Dish machine Den- Hot well Neubig Kitchen – kettles. Michelle Brackin will place a work order.
  4. Dunkin Donuts air gap update –Dan Davis will return the air gap to the Dunkin three bay sink and will attempt to prevent the original safety hazard of overflowing water on the floor possibly

New Ice melt heat system to Old Main will be installed before winter to prevent ice build up

  1. Beginning of Semester Accidents
  2. 8/1 – 10/4 13 accidents
  3. Since 9/21/2010 - 5 student accidents – four of whom were hired this semester after student group training ( after 9/2/2010) – Reminder that those student hired afterwards need to receive training –group level and “how can I get hurt?” on a specific area level. Michelle will follow up with David McIntyre to set up student orientations on an ongoing basis.
  1. Review Chemical Safety- Project Simplify
  2. Final MSDS books are in place
  3. New LABELS for sanitizer buckets and secondary containers have been sent out to each unit. They are small and larger ones are on order.
  4. Dan Davis received and distributed screened labeled spray bottles for SNAP Products. Dan is meeting with SNAP rep 10/6/2010 about failure to stock supply. Dan Davis will check if SNAP can be used on a freezer floor.
  5. Bill Mcnamara contacted Maines about subbing chemicals. There are ongoing difficulties.
  6. Dining management has indentified chemical duplicates and the standard to be used in all locations. All older or orphan chemicals should be used up quickly or disposed of in the Fall Semester.

New Items

Winter weather issues:

  1. Walk off mats – each unit will order them from Ames Linen.
  2. Snow Removal – Corey drive and loading dock was an ongoing issue last winter. Coke and Milk suppliers will not deliver if the same conditions occur this winter. The State has indicated that they cannot plow the Corey Drive and loading dock when ASC vehicles are parked in the lower lot.
  3. Neubig Roof leaking and mold growing on ceiling tiles. The project is still on track. Dan Davis will report a start date at the next meeting.
  4. Stadium Roof leaked a tremendous amount of water into concession A during the recent tropical storm. Dan Davis will have the state look at it.

Dan Davis will set up a meeting with grounds to gather and share information.

Michelle Brackin will check with parking regarding overnight parking in the Van Housen Lot.

Outstanding Items

  1. Carts – ASC transfer boxes all have new, larger, safer wheels installed. Some Maines carts were pulled out for cleaning and maintenance, which caused confusion and a shortage. Those carts have been returned and 3-4 carts are currently out of rotation. Bill McNamara will contact Maines about the difficulties and a date when all carts will have been serviced.

  3. Women’s bathroom across from Den water at sink still not consistently working Dan Davis put in a state work order in April 2010 and will again.
