4. FIRST AID MEASURES

Skin Contact: Flush immediately with copious amounts of water for at least 15 minutes. Remove contaminated clothing and shoes. Get medical attention immediately.

Eye Contact: Immediately flush with copious amounts of water for at least 15 minutes. Assure adequate flushing by separating the eyelids with fingers. Get medical attention immediately. Continue to rinse during transport.

Inhalation: Remove to fresh air, keep warm and at rest. If not breathing then give artificial respiration. If breathing becomes difficult, then give oxygen. Get immediate medical attention.

Ingestion: NOTE: Never give anything by mouth if patient is unconscious. Rinse mouth out with water - do not swallow. Do not induce vomiting. Refer to doctor or nearest hospital. Inform doctor of product involved and show product label.

Other Information: Treat symptomatically.

5. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES

Suitable Extinguishing Media: water spray, appropriate foam, carbon dioxide or dry chemical agent.

Unsuitable Extinguishing Media: High-pressure water jet.

Special Equipment For Fire Fighting: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus, and protective clothing to prevent contact with skin and eyes.

Exposure Hazards: Combustion or thermal decomposition will lead to formation of toxic vapours; hydrochloric acid, nitrogen oxides and sulphur oxides. Sufficient measures must be taken to retain fire-control water and should not be allowed to enter drains or watercourses. Dispose of contaminated water and soil according to local regulations.

6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

Personal Precautions: Mark out the contaminated area with signs and prevent access to unauthorised personnel. Wear appropriate PPE – see section 8.

Environmental Precautions: Prevent spillage from entering natural waters, drainage systems and watercourses.

Methods for Cleaning: Absorb spillage with liquid binding materials (sand, diatomite, sawdust, universal binders) and transfer to a suitable container for waste disposal. Neutralise the remainder with a solution of 5% sodium bicarbonate

and 5% sodium hypochlorite for minimum 30 minutes. Discard the neutralised solution or product in accordance with local regulations. Do not mix with other waste materials. Ventilate area and wash spill site after material pickup is complete.

7. HANDLING AND STORAGE

Handling: Product is corrosive. Avoid inhalation, skin, and eye contact. Avoid prolonged or repeated exposure to skin.

Do not handle near open flame, sources of heat or ignition. Good general ventilation is required. When using, do not eat, drink or smoke at the workplace.

Storage: Store in original containers, tightly closed, properly labelled and away from direct light. Store in cool, dry, well-ventilated area. Storage temperature should only be between 0°C - 50°C. Do not use metal containers.

8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION

EXPOSURE CONTROLS

Technical Protective Measures: Use process enclosure, local exhaust ventilation or other controls to minimise vapour/aerosol/spray of product.

Exposure Limits Values:

TWA / STEL
5-chloro-2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one / 0.076 mg/m3 / 0.23 mg/m3
2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one / 1.5 mg/m3 / 4.5 mg/m3

PERSONAL PROTECTION

Hygiene Measure: Avoid inhalation and contact with skin, eyes and clothing. Always wash thoroughly after handling product. Wash contaminated clothing before reuse. Emergency shower and eye wash facilities should be readily available.

Respiratory Protection: Seek professional advice prior to respirator selection. Use NIOSH approved respirator when performing operations involving potential exposure to vapour/aerosol/spray of product.

Hand Protection: Wear suitable chemically protective gloves; nitrile or butyl. Gloves should be substituted if there is any kind of degradation. Wash gloves immediately after use with plenty of water, then remove gloves and wash hands thoroughly.

Eye Protection: Wear chemically protective goggles or face shield with safety glasses.

Skin Protection: Wear chemically protective clothing: apron or overalls and boots.

Special: Wear adapted clothes to avoid repeated or prolonged contact with skin. Work in a ventilated area with a minimum speed of air of 0.75m/second

ENVIRONMENTAL EXPOSURE CONTROLS

All necessary precautions must be taken to avoid release into the environment. Refer to local, state or national legislation for environmental and pollution control.
