“Safeguarding – a “whole family” approach”

Wednesday 7th February, 9.00-4.30

Royal Bath Hotel, Bournemouth

Thursday 22nd February, 9.00-4.30

Kingston Maurward College, Dorchester

In 2018, the pan-Dorset Safeguarding Boards for Adults and Children are combining to provide joint conferences aimed at key practitioners, managers and commissioners from multi-agency services for children, young people, adults and families. The aim of the conferences isto promote a whole family approach to safeguarding through multi-agency collaboration, ensuring best practice.

“Families, in whatever form they take, are the bedrock of our society. Making sure that the support provided by children’s, adults’ and family services is co-ordinated and focused on problems affecting the whole family is important for everyone, and is the only effective way of working with families experiencing the most significant problems.”

(Department for Children, Schools and Families)

Key Note Speaker: Jan Pickles OBE

Jan Pickles is a qualified and registered social worker who has worked in Government, the voluntary sector, the Probation Service and the NSPCC. She was awarded the OBE for her work in developing national multi-agency responses to domestic abuse risk assessment and management across the UK.

Jan’s firm belief is that “Safeguarding is about people, not processes……. Unless we collectively strive to deliver valued outcomes for children, young people and adults no matter how challenging their circumstances, there is no point in processes. Safeguarding is about people having choices in their lives and particularly in their relationships, which must be free of inhumane coercion”.
