Thank you for your interest in joining Parkinson’s UK’s volunteer team. Volunteers started the organisation in 1969 and are still central to the charity today. Roles vary from photography and campaigning to educating and fundraising. If you join our team, we will aim to provide a rewarding and worthwhile experience for you. All Parkinson’s UK volunteers must be aged 18 or over.

Events Volunteer – The Big Half 2018Location

One day – Sunday 4 March for 3 - 6 hoursWhat the role involves
Are you looking for a fun way to spend a Sunday? Do you have a lot of energy to spare and keen to meet new people? Come and help us celebrate our amazing runners at this brand new half marathon from the organisers of the London Marathon in Central London.Parkinson’s UK needs your help to show our runners just how amazing they are! We have two exciting roles available on the day:
Cheer point:
We’ll need you to cheer, shout and make as much noise as possible at our cheering points along the course! You’ll be given clap hands, whistles and horns to show your support and give our runners a boost when they need it the most. Anyone can shout and cheer no matter how young or old you are, so this is a great one for families to get involved in.
Charity village:
We need bubbly, energetic people to help us at The Big Festival after the run. You’ll be chatting to family, friends and supporters while they wait and congratulating the runners on their amazing achievement. You’ll be handing out much-needed refreshments to help with their recovery and to make them feel appreciated.
Your support will help us to raise money to support our work to find a cure and improve life for everyone affected by Parkinson's.

What we’re looking for

Training and support provided
All volunteers receive a briefing and induction prior to the event with Parkinson's UK. You’ll also receive refreshments on the day, a free Parkinson’s UK t-shirt and cheering materials.Volunteer expenses
We believe that no Parkinson’s UK volunteer should find themselves out of pocket because of expenses incurred when carrying out their volunteering activities on our behalf. As a volunteer you can claim out-of-pocket expenses in line with Parkinson’s UK’s Volunteer Expenses Policy.
Criminal record checks
Some of our volunteer roles are classed as regulated activities supporting vulnerable people, and volunteers applying for these roles will be asked to undertake a criminal records check. This is at no cost to the volunteer. Your Parkinson’s UK staff contact will provide you with further information on this process.
