The purpose of the Outstanding Dietetics Educator Award program is to recognize the teaching, mentoring, and leadership activities of faculty in ACEND‐accredited dietetics education programs. One educator can be selected from each of the four program types in Colorado (a maximum of four awardees)

Note: Preceptors are not eligible for this award. Active NDEP Council Members and previous ODEA winners are eligible for this award. For a listing of the current NDEP Council members go to

In addition to publishing the list of outstanding educators in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and NDEPline, each awardee will receive a certificate and congratulatory letter from the Academy President. Awards will be presented at the NDEP area meetings for educators each spring.

Criteria for Selection of Outstanding Educators

  1. Member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
  2. Faculty with academic or supervised practice appointments in ACEND‐accredited dietetics education programs:
  • Coordinated Program in Dietetics
  • Dietetic Internship
  • Didactic Program in Dietetics
  • Dietetic Technician Program
  1. Demonstrated innovative teaching skills and techniques.
  2. Demonstrated mentoring as documented by letters from students (limit three letters per nominee).
  3. Demonstrated leadership; e.g., national, state, or district dietetic association activities, community service, honorsreceived, scientific and professional presentations, publications, employment, etc.

Selection Procedure and Submission Dates

  1. Nominations from peers or students will be made to the Colorado Academy of Nutrition and Dietetic (CAND). Complete responsibility for selection at thisstage rests with CAND.
  2. Nominations will be due to Allie Tabish, CAND Member Benefits chair at by January 5, 2015. Please contact Allie Tabish with questions on the award procedures or selection process.
  3. Each nomination should include an application cover letter, data sheet (page 2 of this document), resume, and three lettters of reference
  4. The Colorado Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics will present the award recipients at the CAND Spring Annual Meeting.
