Std Hours:Monday to Friday 0830 – 1600pm / Flexibility in this role is essential; job may involve evening and weekend delivery.

Contract:Fixed term until March 2017

Salary:£20,828.00

Project Brief

Rural and Urban Training Scheme (RUTS) is looking to recruit a Youth Worker (Employability) for delivery of accredited learning programmes to meet the needs of the RUTS Employability Fund programme. This comprises of the achievement of agreed qualifications such as the SQA Personal Development Award and the support of our trainees progression towards employment through work placements or further training.

RUTS has been in existence for over 30 years and delivers a range of youth work interventions using motorcycles, bicycles and training in personal development and employability.

You will participate in the recruitment and selection of trainees entering the RUTS Employability Fund programme and actively mentor and support these trainees throughout the programme ensuring that the contract outputs and outcomes are met.

You will identify opportunities for additional learning or intervention which will positively impact on the life chances of our trainees, such as literacy, numeracy or financial literacy.

This will be a challenging role and you will therefore, need to be enthusiastic and committed to working with young people, supporting them as they deal with a range of issues and helping them to successfully move into positive opportunities and achieve better outcomes

Duties

  1. Delivery, under direction and support of the employability manager, SQA accredited employability training which supports the social and emotional development of young people, as well as their employability skills. Working towards performance indicators related to successful entry into employment, education or further education.
  1. To initiate and maintain positive relationships with all key partners involved, working with new and existing youth forums and networks to ensure links are made with appropriate agencies to Identify and facilitate appropriate progression routes towards work or college for trainees.
  1. To manage a personal caseload of young people providing sustained support to young people requiring help, advice and guidance regarding actual or perceived obstacles and barriers affecting their successful move to adulthood/working life. This may include advocating on behalf of young people, facilitation of group work or other one-to-one interventions
  1. Source and manage relevant opportunities such as work placements, apprenticeships, paid and unpaid employment etc. for the benefit of young people under the guidance of the Employability Manager.
  1. Take ownership of the programme delivery, engaging with external providers and colleagues where required to support effective delivery.
  1. Provide individual support and guidance to trainees on the RUTS Employability Fund programme.
  1. Respond to and instigate referrals to other agencies / internal programmes and take on a Case Manager role where appropriate.
  1. To manage own time and deliver objectives and targets ensuring the development of professional practice and updating personal knowledge of local and national initiatives. This can include autonomous working as a requirement of the delivery of services.

  1. Review and monitor outcomes to inform evidence based practice, quality questionnaires, feedback form etc.

  1. To conduct one to one or group activities with young people aged -16 - 24, or develop small project work.
  1. To write reports, correspondence, minutes and marketing material as required.
  1. To deliver quality presentations using appropriate media, such as Power Point, OHTs, audio-visual, flip charts and handouts.
  1. To use ICT appropriately as a means of communication, research, document production and filing, and presentation.

EExperience of working with young people and the ability to build and sustain relationships with young people

EA can do, will do attitude to making positive and far reaching differences in the lives of young people.

EKnowledge/understanding of the needs of young people 14-19 in terms of transitions and sustaining participation in learning and/or employment

EGood experience of delivering group learning programmes and experience in the provision of guidance and support in moving clients to jobs, college or further training.

EA creative approach to achieving targets and a firm commitment to progressing both our trainees and the organisations objectives.

EUnderstanding of ethical issues surrounding young people (e.g. boundaries ofconfidentiality, child protection, equal opportunities.)

EAbility to meet deadlines and targets

EExperience and understanding of delivering accredited learning programmes. These include SCQF and qualification other structures.

EAbility to work as part of a team and contribute to other programmes

ECommitted to the provision of a service based on equality of opportunity, inclusion, partnership and co-operation

EKnowledge of the current employability and youth transitions agenda, interventions and resources.

EExcellent communication skills (oral and written) and effective interpersonal skills

EExcellent ICT skills

DFirst Aid training

DHold a recognised assessors qualification eg A1 The post holder must also have knowledge of the MCMC Agenda, SDS framework and 16+ Learning Choices
