Report of the Free Dental Camp

Ragas Dental College & Hospital and Rural Development Trust
At Egattur Telugu School on 25th March 2007 (Sunday)
Introduction:
Rural Development Trust is running Five Special Schools for the Telugu Migrant Children with the support of ASHA-Seattle Chapter, USA. There are more than 450 Migrant Telugu Children are attending the school regularly. The Telugu families are migrating often for employment purpose and live in unhygienic polluted situation. Due to this reason the health condition of the children are very pathetic and often they face dental problem. Due to ignorance and language problem the Telugu people are not able to approach the Dental Clinics. More over the Dental Clinics are far away from them and they hesitate to go there due to insecurity.
To solve this problem Rural Development Trust made continuous effort to contact the officials of the Ragas Dental College and explained the importance of the Free Dental Camp. The Principal of the Ragas Hospital appreciated our service and agreed to send the Dental Team for the Egattur Village.
As per the programme we arranged the Dental Camp at Egattur on 25th March 2007. We invited all our Telugu Children and Tamil Children from the surrounding villages to participate in the camp.
A team of Seven Dental Specialists and other Paramedical Staff reached the camp place at 9-00 a.m. Ten Telugu Teachers were appointed on special duty to organize the camp systematically and assist the medical team.
The Role’s & Responsibilities of RDT Staff:
The Dental Specialist formed two groups and stated their work. The RDT Telugu Teachers were given responsibilities to do the following activities.

Beneficiaries of the Camp:
Altogether 169 children attended the Dental Camp and benefited. Out of this 169, there are about 73 (41 boys & 32 girls) children identified with acute dental problems. Doctors advised them to go for further investigation and management at Ragas Dental College & Hospital.
The Chief Medical Officer assured that the children who attended the Dental Camp would be treated freely for any dental complications. And also the Dental Team is willing to have periodical Dental Camps to our Telugu Children once in three months.
Rural Development Trust arranged all logistic and facilities to the Dental Team. As a whole the Dental Camp was organized systematically and successfully for the benefit of the poor Telugu Migrant Children. The parents of the children also appreciated the health services of the Ragas Dental College & Hospital and Rural Development Trust.
Conclusion:
This was the first dental camp organized for the Telugu Children in the project villages. The Telugu people requested Rural Development Trust to organize the Dental Camp for the adult population also very soon. We represented this to the Ragas Dental Hospital and requested them to organize dental camp to Telugu families.
We Staff of the Rural Development Trust felt happy to do such health services for the benefit of the poor migrant Telugu families.
There are seven Reports of the Daily News Papers voluntarily came forward and gathered news about the Dental Camp.
We are maintaining records and dental reports of the Telugu children for further follow up.
