Dear Parents/ Carers,

As Rock Challenge is fast approaching I just wanted to share some key information about the day with you all.

Running of the day/ travel:

The children will need to come into school as normal on Tuesday 6th February. The coach will then be ready to pick us up at 10:00am and take us to Stevenage Theatre and the children will be with us until the end of the performance at 9:40pm. Each child can either come back on the coach to Bovingdon at this time, with an estimated arrival time of 10:15pm, or they can be collected by a parent or carer at the venue if you are coming to watch. Please let us know if you intend to pick up your child from the venue with the slip below so we know how many children are coming back on the coach.

Clothing:

Rather than wear their uniform to school on Tuesday, children are invited to wear their Rock Challenge hoodies (which will be given to them the day before) and some comfortable clothing, i.e: leggings, joggers, t-shirt and trainers. Please do not allow your child to come in wearing jeans as they will need to dance the dress rehearsal in the clothes they arrive in.

Food:

Please be aware that the children will be with us over lunch and dinner time and as there is nowhere for the children to buy food or drink an adequate packed lunch and tea will need to be provided. As Rock Challenge promotes a healthy lifestyle please do not send them with any fizzy or energy drinks and as little ‘sweet treats’ as you can. The children will be very active during the day so please pack lots of water for them to drink.

Entertainment:

Throughout the day the children will have some waiting time as each school completes their two dress rehearsals. The children are invited to watch these dress rehearsals in the main auditorium or stay in the dressing room. They are therefore encouraged to bring any colouring or reading books they would like to use in the dressing room. However, please do not allow your child to bring any electronics. The dressing rooms are often shared and are never locked and we would hate for them to go missing. As well as this, the venue is very strict on PAT testing any electrical equipment brought into the building so the children would not be able to use them once inside anyway.

Donations:

We are currently sourcing our costumes and props for the performance and we have been very lucky to have some donations from companies and parents. If anyone else would be willing to donate any money towards the costume, set and hoodies please bring the cash in a named envelope to either myself in 3KL, Mrs Bond in 4AB or Miss Pruden in 6AP. Please note this is completely voluntary and is simply to help; please do not think this is expected.

The Performance:

The venue will open the doors at 6pm and the show is due to start at 6:30pm. We will not know the running order of the actual performance until it is drawn on the day but Bovingdon will perform between 6:35pm and 8:05pm. There will then be a break where the judges convene, ready to come back at 8:45pm for the award presentation. Please cheer really loudly when Bovingdon come on to perform, I cannot express how hard your children have worked on this performance and deserve your encouragement.

If there are any other questions or queries, please do not hesitate to ask. Rock Challenge is a fantastic show to be a part of and I can’t wait for you to see your child perform. We are all very proud of the children’s dedication to this performance and we can’t wait to see them do Bovingdon proud.

Thank you for your continued support.

Mrs Kemp.
